Hi It's me again.I was wondering if anyone could help me. I've had this trike (1985 honda 250es) for 3 years now and I want to in prove it. The motor was never taken out. Every part on the motor is the same ones that was on it when it was brought. before I got it, it was mostly used for towing fire wood but it still works like the day it was bought. It needs a few patch ups but other than that it is really good condition considering the use it has gotton. I will have a piture of her for ya later on but until then I was wondering if u could help me.

To be honest if you want more power and speed you need a different trike. The big red wasn't made for that and if you are riding it like I think you are you'll just end up tearing it up.

That being said, I've been told you can retrofit the jug off a later model trx300 onto the factory bottom end for a big horsepower increase. However, you should remember the old saying...IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT.

Tell ya the truth and to be honest with ya, All I've ever seen ever here in my town and other places I've thanken trips too is 250es, 200es, 200s, 200m. No racing trikes. One day I did see a SX and I was amazed. So dude this 250 I have now is about the closes thing to a racing trike I'm gonna get. O and I did see one of those 2 stroke honda trikes but that was plan garbage!! I use my 250 like a racing trike. But I am always loseing axle bearings and stuff. Thanks anyways

 that's exactly what I meant. For the money that thing is worth plus what you spend keeping it together after you're out beating on it you'd be better off finding a 200x and hopping it up. Post a want ad in your local cycle shop, ask around...they're out there if you look. you can sell that 250es and have plenty of money to buy a 200x plus have alot left over to make it faster.

I agree with Dan the big red was to heavy to be a real sport trike. And with the shaft drive that eliminates being able to change gears for more speed or power.

And i know what you mean about the only trikes around being utility ones. Its has taking a long time to hunt down my 200x`s. And to find a 350x in this area. Just keep your eyes and ears open. And keep reading your local papers every week.

If you keep trying to ride the big red like a sport trike you are going to rip it up and it wont be worth anything. So maybe put a add in the paper and see if anyone wants to trade a sports trike for the big red. I know if i had it i would just use it around the yard and for nice slow trail riding. Them big reds hold there value and it would be a shame to mess it up.

Well there are some specs out there on all the trikes on 3wheelerworld. I can give you some info on what you will find on a 200x.
83-85 models,(5 speed) After-market parts are alot more available for these years like pipe/ exhaust swingarms, axles.progressive springs and other things. The downside Original parts are very slowly running out. However these parts are available a dime dozen thru ebay.

86-87 models (6 speed) are alot more limited in after market parts. You can get original parts pretty easily so far that I have found. They are also used on ebay but not as frequent. The parts are also alot higher in price.

If you do buy a 200x I would recommend the 83-85 just because of parts availability. Plus you as ride you can put performance and adapt very easily. Also I hear you can steal other parts from other "types" trikes on these years where you can't on the newer models.

I can't believe I just said that since I own the 86':lmao:

an '86-87 200x might be worth that, but not a earlier model. your best bet is to go ahead and sell the big red then you'll have some cash to wave in their face.

well...I agree with everything Danny-boy has said in this thread except for the selling thing :)

I wouldnt sell a nice 250es for a 200x (unless it was a 87) evvvver.

Big Reds are too versatile and too fun to get rid of. I say jsut save up....Id bet $500-$600 could find you a cosmetic basket case 83-85.

and Jenn: You are incorrect on the 86/87 parts availability. Engine junk is easy to come by....ever hear of the XR200? Thats the 86/87 200x engines...all the stuff itnerchanges and is more powerful id assume on the XR. Now....Cosmetics for the 86/87's....thats a differant story! hehe

Good luck,
Rob
