I just bought a 85 Big Red. The ower had just installed a 275 amp lawn mower battery in the trunk. Seems like a good idea but I'm worried what electrical problems this might cause. Anyone know what the conseqeunces are? Thanks:confused:

do you have the specs for a big red battery? If they're both 12v then it shouldn't be a problem if it has more amps.

Same voltage but the orginal battery is 12 to 14 amps. I called the dealer, he said it could burn up the CDI unit or other parts. I wonder if he just wants to sell a battery though.

I think as long as you keep the battery charged you will not have any problems.
The place where you could burn up something is if the battery was dead or nearly so, it might suck so many amps charging up that you could toast a regulator or alternator.
The other problem I see is that the trunk is plastic and that battery has to be heavy. I would be worried about hitting a big bump and having the battery break the plastic. Plus I like having the trunk to haul other stuff in.
