On all the motors I've ever built for cars/trucks etc. I've always done a cam break in for 5 minutes at 2000 RPM. When I rebuilt the topend in the 350X I tried to do the same thing (by ear, don't have a tach) but had some issues with oil leaks and had to keep shutting it down and starting back up. It runs fine and haven't had any problems, but should I do a cam break in at a steady RPM on an atv cam? I'm thinking of re camming it again and am looking to do everything "the right way".

I would say a steady rpm will break one in. But I had the same problem with my X (couldn't keep running. No oils leaks, just carb trouble). The rule of thumb is as long as the is oil there, It should be fine. The lube is for in case oil doesn't get there in less than 30 seconds. For lack of fuel,timing,etc...
I haven't had any cam problems with mine. Everyting still looks good. I use straight moly paste/grease on my cam and rockers. Plus I use PJ1 assembly lube after I put it together, I spray the lube everywhere. as long as the is a hole I can get the nozzle in.
