this is really starting to bother me,as you know i just put a 80 over jug and piston kit and thought i was having trouble with the timing but it was the stator plate.
NOW the DAM thing is smoking ...i changed the head and that didn't help
the piston still looks brand new it runs great lots of power and speed but it smokes so bad you can go down the trail for five minutes and turn around you get back to the start and there is still a little trace of smoke :wtf:
anybody gots any ideas???
please help
ps anybody know how to check a head
i have over 200 psi compression the head is stock could that be it (the stock head can't handle the compression)

There are two ways to burn oil. Bad rings, or valve guides. Sounds like your rings are OK, looks like you need to replace the valve guides.

is there a way to check the valve guides?( like a pressure test like on cars)

I was just wondering if when you put the rings on the piston. If you staggered them to make sure that none of the gaps would be in the same spot. Usally with guides they tend to smoke when you first start them. And the smoke gets much less after the engine has warmed up and been running a few minutes. The thing that throws me is the 200psi. You shouldnt get that much psi if the rings were not staggered. So they must be right. So it almost has to be in the guides. I cant think of anything else that would cause it to smoke so much.

my buddy's 230 sport was smoking just as bad as mine and with a new piston kit he thought it would stop but the jug was out of round and his piston looked like it was burnt bad fron the oil ....mine still looks new and it has burned about 2 quarts of oil!
:wtf:

Pull the head off, hold it with valves facing down, put some gas in a syringe and squirt a little around the springs! if fuel leaks through valve job time! that is the best way to test, I know of!
How much oil is it burning a trip ? some times they will burn oil till the rings seat. if oil consumtion is not to bad, so you can run it for two hrs. run it at 2000 rpm for two hrs to see if it will quit smokeing. valve gides would have to be real bad to suck oil while running or its not draining off the oil back to the oil pan.

i would look at the oil ring on the piston. to get that much oil in combustion i would think the oil ring seperater must be overlapped and not butted properly.
