My buddy's 1985 200X with an XR lower end has a leak around the shifter shaft. Is there seal or something that needs to be replaced to stop the leak? I hope the cases don't need to be split......

Ya replace the seal. just have to pull the shifter off to remove it.

Ok, that's not so bad. Much less of a PITA than splitting the cases. Does the seal just slide right out of and into the shaft housing?

I use two dry wall screws to pull the old seal out. They're so sharp you can screw them into the metal case of the seal, one on each side pull it out with a set of pliers.

That works. I use a dent pulling slide hammer with sheetrock screw in it.

Thanks for the tip guys! I used a drywall screw to remove a leaky crank seal on my car. Worked great! I'll have to pass that along to him.
