Hi all. I have a question for the trike gods here. I have the remnants of a yamaha trike and I have been trying to find out what year and model it is. I believe from the displacement marked on the motor case that it is a 200, but I do not know where to look on the frame to find out what model. I believe it is early to mid 80's. It has front shock forks, but the rear is solid with no suspension and it is chain driven, not shaft. I have had it for several years due to the fact that I have not been able to find parts without knowing what it is. The jug and head were trashed long ago due to debris using the piston to beat them to death. I've seen several other yamahas that look similar, but they are all shaft driven and with rear suspension. Is this an oddball or is it just a rare version? I've thought about trying to get the old girl back up and running, but I'd like to know if it would be worth pursuing first. She is in good shape for what's there, but it is missing some vital pieces that may be hard to locate and expensive when I do. I am considering transplanting a 250 Kawasaki streetbike engine into her rails if I can find the rest of the pieces to make it a roller. Anyway, I know this has been a long post, but I wanted to give all the info about it that I have. Hopefully someone out there can shed some light on this thing and help me decide her fate. Thanks for any info in advance!!

Thanks,
Newb

I went to look at a bike that was exactly what you are explaining. I believe it was an 83 200, with yellow plastic, not sure if there were different models or not....

That sounds right the 1983 YTM200K Tri-Moto was a 200cc 4-strock with a auto clutch 5-speed tranny and chain drive.

I HAD A BIKE LIKE THAT, I THINK ITS A 83' 200 MABEY A 82' I'M NOT SURE. THE 84's HAD FRONT SHOCKS, DRIVE SHAFT BUT NO REAR SHOCK. I HAVE 1 OF THOSE TOO. THEY ARE SOME PRETTY GOOD BIKES:rolleyes:

Thanks everyone for all the tips. I was pretty sure that it was in the early 80's, but not positive. I'd seen the '84's, but like it was pointed out, they had the front shocks and no rear suspension but were shaft drive and mine is chain. So, thanks for confirming my suspicions. Does anyone know if this bike would be worth restoring. As I stated before, it needs quite a bit of work and is missing some very critical pieces that may be difficult and expensive to find. Decisions, decisions...... Anyway, thanks again everyone!!
