Im thinking of doing up my Tecate 4 but I know nothing about mods. I want to make the motor bigger with the 330 but what needs to be done to the motor? Also i hear the price for a kit is like 1000$ Is this true and worth it? Also what is the best pipe for the t4?

I, personally, would nto put a big bore in a tecate 3 OR 4. Tecates are too ncie of machines to wreck like that. if you want to add alomst 100 cc's, youre gonna end up having to bore out the case of the engine also.
I say jsut be a .060 or a .080 over piston, thatll bump you up a few cc's. Displacement isnt -that- important on a 2 stroke, ya know? I mean...a KX80cc 2 stroke can smoke any 660cc raptor on the planet....and you got 250cc's!

let me just say.... big bore is awsome!!!
300 and 330 on a tecate makes it come alive.
already a fast bike
but now its faster makes a masive diff.....!
displacment is everything
my stock tecate beat a raptor (not by much)
doesnt matter a win is a win!!!
i love modifing its the greatest. (be careful and use your head)
think big bore short stroke or long stroke standard bore.
what do you like
example: 64.9 mm stroke 69mm bore (square eng.)
64mm srtoke 76mm 0r 76mm bore. (powerful).
extensive port work redome cyl. head
190 psi compression 110 fuel or vp fuel mr2 120 octane
what does this make?
one bad motherf...!
have fun.
you want a fast trike build a tecate...
you want a reliable trike build a 250r...

I own a tecate 3, what I would do is to have your cylinder ported/polish, 39 mm air striker carb, and v-force reeds. That will realy wake it up. I here that a kx cylinder has different powervalve spec which are good for the tecate. Anything more you will have to do some serios chassis improvements. I have ridden a tecate 4 and it doesn't even comprare to my honda trx250r. my 250r is mostly stock and the tecate was stock. tecate's really need +2 a-arms, +2-4 axel, aftermarket shocks, and +2 swingarm. Tecate connection's web site has some articles on tecate mods. Look through some 4 wheel action or dirt wheels magazines, awhile ago maybe 1-2 years ago, a person wrote in wanting to put a 500 motor and his and they streesed the points on how narrow and short the tecate is.

try these two shops
MP Racing http://www.mpracing.com
or
Patriot Racing
patriotracing@apexmail.com
Both have alot of expirience with 250r motors...but from the base of the cylinder up they are pretty much the same as the tecates.

i agree i had some bad experiance with boring so id think that shld be a last resort...i heard nothing but good things about tecate engines especcially the later ones with the power valves and stuff..so id try and do head mods porting polishing..exhaust..carb..reeds...just dont touch that cylinder :nono: ...
P.S. am i wrong or is it true that tecates have some kind of coating on the cylinder walls and should not be bored?..i have heard that from several people that if u bore a tecate u wreck it...so ...is that :bs: ?

I belive Ive heard the same thing, Stingray. I think its similar to a sleeve but its coated on---Yamahas also had it. I could be wrong becuase ive never worked on a tri z or t3 1st hand.

you are right, tecate's and older kdx's and kx's have a nikil sill coating on the cylinder walls. alot of newer mx bikes and even some four strokes do now. The bike runs cooler with the lining. The cylinder can't be bored, you have to resleeve them which is not cheap. Alot of times your better off with new cylinder, it will cost youalmost as much in some cases.

The tecates all of them all have a electro fusion cylinder that can be bored but you need to get it recoated. The ups for the sleeve is that you NEVER have to hone the damb thing. Just get new rings and go. If used right it can save you lots. But now my bike is f()cked cause of a local mechanic who put my bike back together.

What is the name of the jet ski you can use the piston from to reach a 300cc bigbore? This can be done to a sleeved Tecate cylinder, correct? What size rings would you then need? Is there any machining of the lower cases needed for just the big bore piston without the stroker connecting rod?
I want 300cc's:fire: :headbang: :D

I have a brand new La sleeve bigbore(it's only 285cc with the 70mmstroke x 76mm bore) that's what my tech sheet reads so far. I haven't had a chance to run it yet but with that and the new air striker 38 it should just about rip my arms off....When I tore my bike down last season I saw that my nikasil lining was all messed up......the way it was laid out to me I had a few decisions to make. 1) bigbore kit since it pretty much needed to be re-sleeved(nobody mentioned re-nikasiling it). 2)re-sleeve stock size.... 3) buy new cylinder$$$$. I figured since I don't have the big deal original parts like the plastics and exhaust and won't spend the money people want for them that this will never be that cherried out stocker we all want. This machine is set up to ride.....+4 swinger will be done this weekend(I ended up extending the stocker professionally) shock is being revalved and rebuilt...I can't wait to break this in and then go race and beat some (fill in the blank)'s at Olds, the sand drags and China Wall.....only a few more days....
