350x fuel air/gas mixture

When I try to close my pilot valve shut lightly and open it 1 and 3/4ths run it and turn it shut to shut off the engine and then open one whole turn, my bike will not die. The engine runs and I can close my pilot valve all the way shut. What does this mean? I need to set my air/gas mixture.
