How importanrt are the dowel pins that slide over the cylinder head studs on my 86 R. I just re- installed my top end and forgot to install one of the dowells. I have already torqued the head down, but haven't started the bike yet. Can I just leave it out. What does it do? Thanks guys......Dove

Well there put there for a reason, they line everything up perfectly so youd dont have any problems. I dont know if it will cause any problems not having them. It might cause abnormal wear on the piston/jug if its off too much, but i dont know for shure.

I think I'd like to run them. If I haven't added coolant yet and the bike has never been started can I loosen the head, pull it off carefully, install the dowels and re use the brand new base and head gaskets. They've been on less than 24 hours. Thanks.......Dove

If you have 2 in there i would say ur just fine. I would be real concerned if there was only one in the engine and it was suposto have 2, but if it was suposto have 3 and has 2 I think that the 2 would keep it in like just fine you shouldnt have any problems.
