View Full Version : Wheel Bearing Question
Is it possible to repack rear wheel bearings on a '85 250SX or are they sealed bearings that must be replaced? Mine are making wayyyy too much noise. They are not getting hot and they still spin freely, they just sound terrible. Is this gonna' be a cheap fix (repack) or an expensive one (replace)??

They are internal. I dont know that much about the 250sx. But i would be pretty certain that they are either oil bathed or sealed. But either way they are unpackable. And must be replaced.

I HAD A 185S & THE GUY WHO I GOT IT FROM PUT A GREESE ZERK IN THE AXEL HOUSEING WITH SEALED BEARINGS. WHEN I PUT NEW BEARINGS I REMOVED THE SEAL FROM THE SIDE THAT WAS GOING INTO THE HOUSEING FIRST SO IT WOULD TAKE GREESE, BUT THAT WAS ON A 185S I'M NOT SURE ABOUT YOURS.
The 250sx has four bearings , two to a side . you would have to disasemble the hole swing tail to remove them to grease them. not worth it. the differanchal is oil bath bearings. always check to make shore that your not getting water in the differenchal. it gets in through the drive shaft seat. it has 4 bearings in it and you would not get the pinun nut off. i have dune it and it was next to imposible. 250 pounds torque.
yea, thanks guys. i removed them the other night and saw that they were sealed. after removal, however, the bearings themselves seemed ok. i then changed the oil in the differential because it was a little low and looked pretty old. that seemed to help the noise problem a lot. thanks again for the help.

You can pop the rubber dust seals out add grease than pop them back in
