Newbie Needs Help Ref: Compression

Hello all ... I'm new to 3wheeler but not new to motorcycles having been around them for 40 years. However, I just bought an 82 Honda 200 ATC (BIG RED ????) for my granddaughter. Have rebuilt the top end and replaced brakes, missing cables, new tires, recovered the seat and an all around good cleaning, etc. My question is about compression since I do not have a manual. I checked the archieves without success. Could anyone please tell me what the compression should be on this bike. The piston, rings and valves all seem ok? Thanks in advance. PS ... Welcome to the board! You did a very nice job on the trike! It will last you all a long time.
Now, does it run good? In regards to compression, are you looking for the gauge reading on a tester, or compression ratio?

Stock compression for the 82 ATC 200 is 7.8:1. If you find it's low, and you'd like to bump it up, use the stock 83-5 Honda ATC 200X piston. It'll push it to 9.6:1. A very nice improvement! Hope it helps, and good luck!

Thanks for your replies, but guess I wasn't clear ... I'm looking for the guage reading. I plan on borrowing a tester to check the compression. As I recall sea level also plays a part does it not? Best wishes.

Compression at sea level should be 156 +/- 14 psi. Don't forget to have someone hold open the throttle while you pull the engine over.

Buy the way, welcome! Nice looking trike, I have a '83 like yours. And yes they are a Honda atc 200E big red.
