Hey everybody,
Just picked up a 1984 200 x and an 1983 185 S. Both are very clean and stock.
Have a couple questions for those of you that know. I believe they are both 4 strokes and need no oil mixed with the gas, is that correct? Also when you start them and need to put the choke wide open, is the open position up or down on these Honda trikes? When starting either of them the procedure would be place switch to run, turn gas on, and set choke full open, then kick start or pull start....anything else????

Sorry for what may seem like stupid questions

They look to be four strokes. As long as they have valves on the head, there four strokes. The manuals for these bikes are on pdf at http://deepa.recongamer.com/hondamanuals/index.html

I would make sure you read these manuals well before operating your trikes. The choke lever on them is all the way up=full middle=half and down off. I would choke them full for about 5 kicks and pulls with the fuel on. Then try half or off to start. I think regular unleaded would be fine.

Right click on the manual name and save target as because they are real big.

Thanks bro,
I am pretty sure they are 4 strokers. Appreciate your advice!

WELCOME TO THE BOARD!

Yes they are 4 strokes, as Wild said. No Oil mixing needed.

Hey everybody,

The choke may be needed to start, not always. Mostly when it is very cold. The choke actually "closes" off the air flow, causing it to run a little richer (more fuel, less air) so, you will "open it up" when it has warmed up. On those machines, up is choked, down is open. This time of year, if you need to choke it, it will usually only need to be choked halfway or so.

I would replace the plug with a new one. I recommend an NGK DR8ES-L, many people have problems with non-NGK brands. Run it for a few hours, and inspect the plug, it will be a good indicator of how your engine is doing. (Internet search for reading plugs).

Make sure the chain is lubed and has proper tension. Change oil often, there are no oil filters to speak of, and the clutches are bathed in engine oil. Particles of worn clutch fibers mix in the oil, so it is a good idea to replace it often.

No problem. Just post some pics of those trikes in action !

One more thing: NEVER PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN !!!!
