View Full Version : whats the difference in 350x rear brakes?

what is the difference between a 85 and 86 350x rear brakes and brackets. i want to get a rear caliper gurd for my 85 but it says it is for and 86. would this work on mine.

I dont know what exactly the diffrence is being i havent see a 86 one. I know one is a "floating" brake caliper. All the aftermarket carriers make you update to the 86one but like i said i havent had the 2 side by side to tell ya.

As fare as I can tell its just the mounts.
You may have to trim the edge of the guard at the caliper mount to the swing.

a 85r and 350x had a torsion bar that connects it to the swingarm and the 86 r and x are floating.

deathman53 is correct.

however your reasoning for wanting to know the differance...to put on what i presume is a maier caliper guard...whether or not it would work, (if memory serves me correct it won't) I would not mount one. all it does is trap heat and dirt in your caliper and causes premature wear. plus the only thing it might protect is the paint. anything strong enough to break the plastic will damage the caliper. and anything that won't break the plastic sure wont break the caliper.

thanks for alll the help guyus. im not goinmg to get one after what black sheep said. i do need a skidplate thouhg. i seen pics of other 350x swingers and my skidplate mounts are different. i dont think it is aftermarket but it does have LG stamped in it. would that make it different?
