Anyone know if you can get HID or whatever those slick new car headlights are to fit trikes? (esp. 350x)

I think it'd be pretty slick. Anyone know if there'd be problems powering one of those bulbs? I thought I heard somewhere that they use less power than halogen...

the bulb you want is a xeonon or a plasma bulb. auto stores have them and if its an H-4 Style the target by us has them in there automotive section. try dennis kirk too. but they both have the same look so good luck

you can adapt any non-sealed beam headlight to an HID lighting set-up pretty easily, were the problem comes in is with trying to find a mounting location for the ballast/starter module, and finding a light bulb that is the correct length for the reflector. some of the light bulbs are so long that you have to find the right type of spacers to place the light bulb back in the relector housing far enough to put the bulb in the correct location for good light output. also the ballast/starter module has to be located close enough to the reflector housing so that the bulb wires will reach. the ballasts are usually about 3" x 4" or 5" x 6" depending on what brand you go with, which means you need a place to mount it near the headlight. you can find some of these units complete from various models of cars on ebay from time to time at anywhere from $300 to $500 bucks. it would take a little tinkering to make it work but you could do it, and the light output for these things is awsome compared to standard lighting, and you do not have to have a high output stator. most of these types of lights operate between 35-55 watts depending on what model. I was considering do this conversion to my xr600.... but it is costly. and you have to make it work yourself.... on the other hand Baja Designs in California now has a headlight kit that comes with the ballast, the ignitor module and the bulb for about $300 bucks that can be easily added to anything with a lighting coil, this unit uses about 50 watts of power and is comparible with having approximately 250 watts of halogen lights. it is costly but if you do a lot of night time riding it is worth it. and it is very easy to istal with simple hand tools.... that is what my xr600 will be getting as soon as it is in the budget....
