Just wondering about reed replacement. In a power reeds set from boyesen, is there a top and bottom reed? Or do you just throw them on any old way. Is there a top and bottem to the reed valve assembly? I have the manual but it doesnt mention top or bottom.

Power reeds are a two stage reed and there are two sets of them on the reed cage, top and bottom. Go to http://boyesen.com for more info.

I took off my carb and reeds today. The reeds that are on right now are thin metal.
I called Boyesen and asked about there reeds. The lady on the phone said that in the package, the bottom reed would have holes in it. Is this true any? My reeds look worn and some are slightly opened. I hope these ones I am expecting from DoveSprings are cool, they sound cool from what everyone says.

The bottom reed pedals have three holes, each about the size your thumb. The upper reed has a pedal that covers the holes in the bottom reeds. Depending on RPM's the reeds will open at different times which is why they're called two stage. The reeds you currently have if thin metal are stock and if they don't close completely then they should be replaced.

Cool, I understand. I wonder how much better it will run with new reeds and carb. On my reeds there are three metal bent strips of metal with three holes in each and there screwed on by three screws to hold the thin metal reeds. Are these the stops? I noticed on Boyesen.com that the picture of the power reed had a metal band that the screws go into to hold the reed on. Does this mean when I replace the reeds to not use the stock bent 3 strip reed holder?

See in this pic there is a copper colored band across the top of the reed. Does this replace the stops?

What I am asking is do I keep the stops off when putting on the power reeds. The stops that stop the stock reeds from opening to far and cracking and such.

What I am asking is see in this pic the metal part with the holes, the ones on mine are different but close to the same thing. They stop the reeds from going to far. I was wondering if I had to put this back on with the power reeds. If I am supose to I will but DoveSprings mentioned not to use them. Boyesen says on their site,"More Air Flow - The dual-stage design allows you to replace your stock reed stop with a Rev-Plate which permits the reeds to open freely and function efficiently." Is this rev plate the copper top with the holes in them?

With Boyesens you don't re-use any of the stock parts. This includes the reed stops pictured above. Their reeds have the built in reinforcing strip (the copper thing in the 1st pic) which is all you need and must also be what they call the rev plate I'm pretty sure that whatever Dove is sending you will bolt right on without using anything else old or new.

My bottem reeds have a small opening about the width of a tooth pick. Do you think this would cause leaking and mess up my low end performance?

Hard to say for sure but anything's possible.
