We got it apart and it seems to show some signs of not seating very well for some time... This I guess means I need to take it into a machine shop and get it cleaned up. A friend we had looking at it recommended since I have to do my exhaust side I should go ahead and do the other side too.. But just replace the stem. Is this a good idea?? OR can I get by not doing it. The intake looks very good but not fantastic. I have yet to take the valve out itself so cannot say how well it looks underneath. Since I am on this path what are some other things that are gonna need to be done. This is an 86 200x....thx Jen

Jendnn since yopur already in there you might as well do both valves. things to look for are worn springs, guides, seats, head surface, rocker arm pad wear, rocker arm shaft wear, the hole the shaft goes through on rocker arm.

I don't know about a 200x, but it shouldn't be that diff. really than the 110 motor I went through. I think it was like 8 bucks a valve through dennis Kirk....money well spent as long as you're in there. Of course, then since you have it all apart you might as well glass bead it all and repaint like I did. ..............or not.

jenn; replace the valves. there cheap. when you have the seats done. dont let them grind the seats with stone. look around tillyou find a shop that has a seat cutter. ( neway, quickway ).call a harley shop adout having the seats cut. not ground. the cutting makes for a much fine surface and seal. then hand lap to finish. also by cutting you take lesser amount of materal. (metal) pus anyone having this tool should have the angles to do a three angle cut.

Thx again.....Atc330r any good referrals??? I is kinda depressed about this but on the other hand I am so happy I goofed up and found this. my stems cost me $25 bucks with everything else another $10 that was the cheapest I found them. not sure what the machining is gonna cost. But if I dont do it it is a moot point on replacing them. Jen

j; to see what i,am talking about cutting the seat check out ( www. newaymfg.com ). they will also send you a free catlog. i,d call a harley shop. i know there,s one in albany salem must have one. there is other brand of cutters quickway is another co. that makes these type cutters. i,am sure thres other bike shops that use he same style. an auto machicne shop will want to just grind the seats and not give a damn about the angles !5/45/75.

cool thx.... I gotta wait for my valves to arrive I want whoever does it to put em back in...I was gonna go interviewing a shop that does it at their place today.. that really helps me find a good shop. I do want this done properly. I dont want to sell it messed up. Plus I still have to clean off my piston it has carbon build up. Do you know tempting it is to look into an upgraded piston....I wont do it tho.. Jen

if your going to do it the oversize intake valve is the same price as the std. i put the bigger vave in and removed the "shelf" caused by the factory port tool. if you look thru the intake tract and feel around in the bowl area you'll see what i mean, it's pretty much a dam to air flow. use a dremel with the sanding drum to "RADIUS" the area don't alter the port too much. if you can't get at it on a 86 head use a die grinder but be careful of over cutting that's why i recommend a drum. the oversize valves are made by kibbleworth machine and i got my thru web cam but they seemed to have disappeared. the other thing that is impossible to convince people of is the importance of new vavle springs, if you know any drag racers ask them.
don't forget to order the valve seals

Thank you Mark...I would have to have a shop do it because I is clueless as far as that goes. I am only good at taking them out and puttin em back in and any cleaning involved. any changes is beyond me. My question tho is I have already got the exhaust valve ordered so is it ok to go with a bigger one just on the intake side?? Plus the exhast being bent was my fault. So this is not your typical wear and tear. Had an oil leak at the compression cable was playin with it didnt realize i snapped the c-clip. ran it once, well you get the idea. On top of that it had not been seating right to begin with. But to make ya smile ya I replaced springs and all. at only 3 bucks ea extra goodie, I figure you cant go wrong. As far as I can tell no air can get thru on intake side. Jen

markb;with the bigger valves your talking about. do you use the stock seat and just open that up? do you have an address on that company ? i just bought a neway set for small seats. if the poilts fit i may redo my 200 motors.

i'll look for an address for them, i think i have it still. the intake valve goes up 1 mm in size, it doesn't seem like much but it's area, not diameter (2*pi*r). the ex valve is the same size. my machine shop didn't think it was too bad opening up the seat area. i think their valves were about 20-25$ each, but they are surface treated unlike the stock pieces. ]
jenn they only offer the stock size ex. since there is rarely a good power increase with a larger ex valve.

finally..... i found the tag and it's kibblewhite precision machining of pacifica ca. the p\n is 30-30121. "dennis overpriced" carries the brand name but didn't list this p\n although i think they could get it. i checked powroll.com and their pricing is even more insane. i've got their torgue cam that lists for $216. i mean come on, i pay $250 for billet roller cams for my BBC's, luckily i got it from ebay. i would shop around because i remember paying about $25 from web.
330r please post how you make out with the seat cutter if you use it for this.
