I want to get alot of the scratches and polish up the plastic on my Tri-Z. I heard to use wet or dry sand paper. Wondered what the best method is to do it?

I think the best method is to use a very fine sandpaper with lots of water. The water keeps grit from building up in the paper. After that you can put something over the plastic to shine it up like mop-n-glo.
I'll tell you though that unless your plastic is in bad shape i wouldn't sand it. I'd try polishing it first. 3m makes plastic polish you could probably find at any local auto paint supply store. good luck!

I paint cars for a living and though sanding these scratches out would work, you are talking about an awful lot of work. If u feel u must. start with say 600 grit, maybe even 320 grit if deep scratches. Then take out the 600 scratches with 800 grit, then 1000 grit, finishing with 1200 grit, using plenty of water thru all these grits. Then get a high speed buffer and rubbing compound and buff her up. Should come out looking better than new
i used to paint airplanes and have had to do this to repair windows (most small airplane windows are plastic). It would always make them look like new.

I had the same problems with my 85 250R and i found that PC racing makes a product called Plastic Renew (can be found here http://www.motoworldracing.com/plastic-renew.html) and this stuff works great. Although they say it's not recommended for plastic gas tanks I've used it with incredible results. When i started my tank had a white chalkie look to it but after using this stuff it looks like a brand new tank just have to be careful with gas it will ruin the finish if you spill it and you'll have to apply more PC renew. Water is not a problem
I started with 150grit wet paper and worked up to 2000 wet and i was able to get out most of my deep scratches. I applied the product, after about 4 coats i polished the plastic using 0000 steel wool (comes with the kit) and continued adding addition coats of PC renew until i was happy with the finish. Start to finish took me about an hour ( needs 5 minute dry times between coats)

One of the best ways I have heard is with a Heat gun, What you do is start in a small spot, Turn the gun on and go in small circles with the heat gun being careful not to burn the plastic or melt it too much (you do want it to warm up and start to melt just a little).. It also takes out the white marks that can happen when the plastic is bent..
