My rear suspension is really soft, There seems to be no notrogen left in it. What I read in the clymer manual is that there is suposed to be like 300 lbs of pressure in the accumulater, is this true? If so can I add the nitrogen myself? (Yes I do have the tools to work with that kind of pressure). also my front end seems real soft also but I will try to work on one thing at a time.
you will probably have to rebuld it. have a shop charge it. and see how long it lasts

Gotta ask what makes you think that the nitrogen is gone.
If you are experiencing poor resistance in the compression and rebound action of the shock, it's most likely that the seals, head and/or the oil is bad. Start there. Simply recharging the gas will not revive it.

The reason that I think that the gas is gone is because there is no pressure at the vale stem where you put the gas in. So with that said what do you guy's think...

FIRST of all where are your compression and rebound settings set at? when you say soft what do you actually mean? where is your preload adjusted to? how much do you weigh? its very hard to find the problem with so little information ,,,, :D :D :D

I have turned the compression and rebound settings all over the chart, I weigh 155 lbs, Sorry for so little info. I can take the rear end and shove it down 6-8 inches by hand, with very little resistance, This atc is new to me but I did have an 84 250R 20 years ago and dont remember it being so soft.

well, if you can push it dowm to the point of bottoming out i say you need to adjust your preload ,,,,, just pushing it down by hand you won't feel much resistance ,, the nitrogen does very little to spring rate ,,, its mainly to help compensate for oil displacement ,,,,

OK then how do I adjust the preload? And do you know the amount of notrogen that should be in the accumulater? Sorry to be a pain.

Dang,,, I gotta learn how to use this site better! I have been outa the loop for twenty plus years... But I am back and willing to learn.....Also I look foreward to helping others with there stuff. Now about that 250R suspension.........300 LBS of nitrogen? Oil capacities, Pre-load, etc ,etc, Clymer Manual says different . I would also like to say thanks to all on this site...... I am here forever!

if you can push the shock down 6-8 inches by hand .. the problem is not your preload .. your shock needs to be completely rebuilt ..
I can run the preload backed all the way off on my shocks and still can't push it 6-8 inches, not even close.
