you don't need to get ice tires as long as you have tires with big sturdy lugs on them (like knobbies) you can get a few bags of self drilling sheet metal screws and put about 200 - 300 or so in each tire and get them with your drill. it dosen't take that long either to do a tire and make sure you align the screws and only put them on the raised lugs and make sire that tjhe total screw thread length does not exceed the height of the raised lugs so you don't punchure them. and put a bit of slime or alike in them just to be shure. this is a good way to do it cause it will only cost about $20 for everything if you already got tires! :headbang:

It should be mentioned that you should stagger the screws as much as possible so that they aren't in line. Otherwise they will just dig grooves and loose traction when the tires spin.

I know it's not a trike but Techo's idea works. My buddy did this last winter on his CR500. He said traction on packed snow and ice was great. One drawback though- warn the person that rides behind you- they'll be dodging screws like I was:D

an easy way to stop them from coming out, get 1 inch screws, screw them in, sure they might go all the way threw, if this happens, put some radiator fluid in the tires when you seat the bead, i raced a tecate in the unstuded class, and the fluid for some reason helps you with traction as well, and radiator fluid works alot better at stopping leaks then the store bought fix a flat. atleast this is what i did on that machine, and probably will on my 400 this winter as well.

DADS, I've wondered about using chains instead of screws, but I figured they'd probably tear my fenders off when I hit about 60. Haha.

No you deflate the tire put them on tite, then air up . They don't work good on rounded tires like OME tires. they tend to shift . and on a SX and 250 big red you have the brake lever to watch out for.

so tell me how chains snap off easy. you running plastic chains.:demon: I run 13 inch car chains with a cross link every other side link. in five years they still look new. the only problem is if they hook something when your getting on it, it lifts the front end and turns the trike.

nah, im liking the jiffy point sheet metal screws. thats what i use in my boots when i go ice fishing and theres no snow on top of the ice and the workout pretty good.

if your serious and don't mind spending a couple of bucks for good screws search the topic on macdizzy.com under the "honda open topic" heading
