I am replacing the swingarm axle bearings on a 2004 400ex. Do the bearings have to come out each in their respective directions (left comes out left, right comes out on the right) or can i use a hydraulic press and push them strait through.

You cannot push the bearings strait through. Threre is aT sholder inside the carrier to sto pthem from being pushed in. They come out each there respective ways. Although if you catch it early enough before they seize they do come out quite easy. Slam the carrier down on a block of wood to dilodge them.

Use a race driver or rebar through the center. the spacer will slide over so you can get on the inner race and drive it out.

On removable carriers (250x,300ex,350x,400ex,etc) I weld a dab (tab) on the inner part or race. You then could get ONE bearing out. The spacer doesn't move enough to catch the inner race.
Just remember, when you weld the race. The seals will be ruined. I always replace seals when I replace bearings.
