I was wondering if its possible to put a k&N air filter directly to my carburator and not use an air box. I seen somewhere on this board earlyer this year that someone may have done that. Is this possible any?

Yes it is possible. K&N makes a ton of different size filters.

I removed the air box off my 81R and it hasn't seemed to hinder the performance a bit.

I am going to give it a shot.

The airbox protects the filter from direct mud and water hits. I would only remove it if you are only planning to run in dry sand dunes. But that's just me.

Thanks for the tip. I did not even think of protecting it. I will mostly be riding through dry places. I may just try to fab my breather tube to reach my carb better. This thing is shrunken and warped.
