this is for an 86 200x
Ok Im about to get my cylinder head back. Anyway I am a tad nervous about not getiing this set up correctly. Especially the part on the timing. When we pulled it I was very carefull to leave things as close to top dead center as possible. The book shows how to put it back but I am just double checking to see if there is anything else I should know? Also When I pulled my right case cover I found On the bottom of the oil what looks to be a Thrust washer...I am thinking it belongs on the kick starter...Mine doesnt seem to have one there..is this where it goes? sorry for the weird questions. thx Jen

The head is real simple. Just line your timing marks back up. And make sure when you put the head on the little dowels that the head bolts go through are in the right places. So it can feed oil up to the head. And also make sure before you set the cam in that you fill the cam journals with oil. Just pour about a half of cup of oil into where the cam sits to make sure it has lube for when you start it. It takes a couple of seconds for the oil pump to get oil pumping up to the head.
As far as the washer it is hard to say where it came from. The tranny uses lots of thrust washers. Like you said it probable came off of the kickstarter when you pulled the side cover.
Good luck Jenn. And it really isnt that hard. Just take your time. And before you even mount the motor back into the trike. Try turning over the engine by hand with the kickstarter. Very slowly to make sure everything is set up right.

on the washer ( shim) did you pull the cover on the clucth side? the shim is the size of a silver dollar? did you find a rubber plug in the head near the cam? the older 200x motors have this plug it must go back in.it blocks a oil passage, so the cam gets oil.

no I dont believe so....right side oil cover...or right case cover..Anyway it is already put back on so I could clean the piston off. Just waitin for my valves to come home:D

Interesting. The older 200x you couldnt pull the head off with the motor still in the frame because there wasnt enought room. There was just enought room to lift the head up to replace the cam. Sounds like they fixed that problem with the 86/87 200x.

You can do it Jenn. It wont take long at all to throw back together and mount up in there. And there is nothing like the first ride on a engine that you just put together your self.
