I have a mint 85 250sx that I have owned since new. It has a 200x front end(250r fender) on it with blue shock boots. My original rear shock was sticking so I replaced it with a mint 87 shock with blue coils to match front. Problem is shock is low on gas or whatever it uses inside so it has little dampeneing effect but ride is great. How can I fix this? I hate to replace with another used one because this one is so nice. Where should the spring be set at to give me the most dampening?

2nd question...bike runs excellent but carb leaks out the overflow tube if not on the gas. I have to turn off the gas when coming to stops, etc. What should I look at besides float level that would cause it to overflow once full. I have a clear filter on it so I can tell when it is full/empty so I am used to running it this way but it is a pain in the gas.

Rear shock. I run mine on the high lobe so it does not bottom out.
Carb. float is fixed. may be a bad seat on the gas valve stopper.
or the over flow tube is missing. some times if you open the drain screw and close it it stops the leaking.

Dads,
Are you sure the float is fixed? Mine has two independant floats that slide up and down pins on each side of the bowl. Would my carb be a different model then?

85 has a fixed plastic float. I don't think they changed it on the 86/87.
350x has the plastic float too.

You may have some other carb. or float setup that fits.

My shok does not bottom out, it is the opposite. If I push down the shock and let it go, it will bottom up(if that makes sense)? When you stand up over bumps it pushes up so hard it actually bangs when it fully extends. That is the problem, it fully extends(quickly) which makes me believe the spring is working but there s no fluid to slow down the action.

Adjusting shock only adjusts preload... dampening is not adjustable.
Check the internet for suspension shops. I've seen a couple that claim to rebuild stock shocks.

Take carb off & clean it out throughly.
