I took a lesson from Kasey, and ground most of the knobs off of the trashed front tire that came on my parts bike.

we where thinking of doing the same last winter. i had buggy tires like that. then i saw the factory mohawks. this spring talked to a guy that had a mohawk on a 250r. he said dont buy one. they didn,t work all that good. i dont know?????. may be i,ll run a cross you this coming week. you are staying all week right? the weather has been great, the sand has been getting really tore up on the wknds. by monday afternoon it,s smooth again. last monday i,llbet theres was maybe ten riggs in the sand. my first run on the beach it was just me.

I will be there Friday in the early afternoon. SpinReel went to a online reservation system this year, you can make a reservation 180 days in advance. I paid the bill for the spot several months ago, so I should be able to just roll into the campground and pull into the spot. This is a new thing for me so I will see how it goes.

Do those things really work? I've been going to the dunes since I was born and have never had a problem with a stock front tire. They look cool, but is that it? Funny thing is though I also run knobbies out in the dunes except when I'm sand dragging. I find that the Ohtsu P-301 (orginal 250sx tire) works great on the dunes. My Uncle (raced Factory Honda ATC 250R's in BAJA's),One of my Cousin's (races TRX 250R's for temecula Motorsports in the Baja's) myself, and a few others all run the 250sx tires on the rear of our bikes, in fact that is what they run during the actual race. So I was just wondering if you guys think there is an advantage to having a slick front tire, I've never tried one but if they do work I may have to.

I do not know about the front tire, thats why I made it, to find out, The tire was trashed anyway, so it is a experiment. I agree with you about knobbies. I prefer the OHTSU MR501 radial. I was the stock 300ex tire. I only put on my paddles when everyone else does, the knobbies with low air work very well in the sand.

I realize I may have not been clear on exactly when I will be there. I will be in SpinReel on Friday the 13th (tomorrow) in the early afternoon, and wil be staying until Sat the 21st. Come on by.

THE biggest difference in front tires is ,,,, a mohawk won't sand blast the underside of your trike as bad,,,, when you turn with a knobbie it stirs up alot more sand ,,, and i don't seen to have a problem turning either so i think its got enough bite too,,,,,,, AND IT LOOKS PRETTY KOOL TOOOOO:D :bash: :D :bash: :D

When I go to buy a new set of tires I'll take my old front tire and try it. Couldn't hurt. All you did was take a large sander with some heavy grit and go to town right?

buffing off a tire takes hours to do. a sander sounds like days. i,ve done 15" tires with an angle grinder. leave it on the wheel and on the trike. the tire will spin as you grind. this makes it even. the best thing is to take it to a recapper. they will smooth it off for around 10.00. they can do just the outside egdes. this will leave a rough suface like scat tracks. they can make it smooth or just have them grind off most of the tread then finish it your
self. the rough surface like a scat track throws a much sand as stock tread will
