:wtf: i JUST GOT BACK FROM A (SHORT) RIDE WITH MY BUDDY AND HIS 86 250SX
HE HAS HALF WORE OUT BUCKSHOT MUDDERS ON HIS MACHINE
AND I HAVE NEW SPIDER TRAKS ON MY 250R ...
TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT HE CLIMBED A MEDIUM SIZED HILL WITH LITTLE EFFORT
WHILE AFTER TRYING THE SAME HILL TWICE MY 250R WOULD NOT GO UP IT!!! ABOUT 3/4 UP IN FIRST GEAR IT JUST SAID BLAAAAAAAAA....AND STOPPED BOTH TIMES TALK ABOUT ME BEING PISSED OFF!
WELL NOW IT IS GOING TO THE BASEMENT FOR NEW HEAD GASKET AND PISTON AND RINGS SINCE THEY ARE ORIGINAL.MOST LIKELY IT NEEDS REEDS TO.NEXT TIME I'LL MAKE IT..
just happy it stayed on its wheels the whole time

If your R won't keep up with an SX you have Major problems.

That creeper gear on the 250SX is pretty wicked...

4-strokes are more forgiving on hill climb`s. Even if you let off the gas and hit it again the torque of the 4-stroke is going to get you up a hill. Were the 2-stroke`s have a more limited power band. If you over rev you will spin down and not make it up the hill. Or if you let the revs drop to much you fall out of the power band. And are unable to make it up the hill. In a flat out race i would take a 2-stroke but for hill climbing or wood`s riding give me a 4-stroke anyday.

There's no doubt the R would spank the SX on a track or just top end, but low-end torque (like climbing a hill that you couldn't hit on the R with a bunch of power), it doesn't surprise me that the R wouldn't climb it. I don't think I'd just go tearing into the motor on the R- it's not necessarily broken...

hey every body dont get me wrong my r (in 4th gear) will smoke the sx(when topped out) i've stomped banshee's and warriors last weekend i climbed a hill that i shouldn't have even attempted(decided that when i got half way up then it was to late to turn back) and had no problems
the sx tried and it rolled and flipped back down!!
i know my head gasket is leaking so i have to change that havent decides about the piston and rings yet i think my original factory82 reeds need replacing

I rode my 250sx for about 5 years and I've had my R for the past 10. The only thing the sx does better is start. I consider a hill climb one that if you stop you have to get off the bike to keep it from rolling or sliding back. It takes speed and horse power to make it up real hills.

See I knew this post would show who was a true member of the SX faithful. :D
I would take my SX over an R in the deep woods w/ no trails and lots of trees. Gotta love that reverse and 4stroke low-rpm performance. ;)

I also like to ride the SX when I need to make a bathroom run and don't want to leave my beer behind. The R is tough to ride with one hand.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA:lmao: Im with WooDo, take a four stroke and take the beer, but when your done the R would be much more fun, and always remember my motto,
PIN IT, AN WIN IT!

in a flat out race i'd take the 2 stroker, but for trails and just having fun, RIDING, 4 stroker all day.
