alright heres the deal with my 87 200x. this machine appears to be fairly rare compare to the 83-85. i had bought this from a friend for $700 about a year ago not realizing what i had bought. it was in ruff shape when i had bought it, but i had always wanted a race ready atc. so he had told me the axle wasnt bent and only needed bearings. at the moment i realy didnt care about an axle or bearings i just wanted to get my money and drive it home. so i did just that. i replace the bearing shortly after but discovered that the axle was infact bent on one side. the bend isnt much but enough to feel if your on the rode ripping through gears or riding a wheelie. so i went on ebay and search for the axle for my machine and this task proved nere impossable because not many people rip the axles out of these beautiful machines and the aftermarket seems to neglect the 86-87. so i decided to buy a 350x axle, witch i got a reasonable price and come to find out 350x axles have a larger diameter and will not fit in my carrier. i also have a 200s axle in my basement and it will fit in the carrier but it wont work with the assmebly of the sproket, brakes and ect.

now what i want to know is will a 250r axle work in my bearing carrier? if not will a 250r carrier work in my swing arm?

also i always wanted to buy an extend swingarm, i lost a bid on a durablue +2 swing arm for my machine and it only went for $180!!! the guy out bid me becuase i didnt have access to a computer when it was 7:00am. so another question i have if i were to take my arm to a fabrication shop to have my stock arm extended do u extend before or after the shock mount? i assume after to keep stock height but i wouldnt be asking if i wasnt sure. any info on helping me correct this will be appreicated thanks!

I don't know if there are aftermarket axles for your machine but you could always get the one you have straightened.

The 83-84 250r axle works, you might need some 250r brake parts. Straightening the axle will be easiest. I would not reccommend extending the swingarm at all, it makes it handle like crap, look like crap, and it simply does not need to be lengthened. It would also knock down the value.

Why not grab an 85-86 200X axle?

Then you don't have to dork around with trying to make axles from other models work with your carrier. Just a suggestion.

eBay does have alot of parts for the 200X. I can't say there is alot of 87 parts. But previous years are available.

Best of luck!!!

Post some pix if you have them.

83-85 200x and 86/87 are almost seperate bikes, with very little in common. I was told that 83-85 axles won't fit. I would have bought a 83-85 axle over getting the parts to swap over the 83/84 250r axle. You will find this with alot of parts, there is 83-85 that is easy to get and 86/87 that is quite hard to get.

None of the 83-85 models parts will work on an 86 or 87.......You can get your axle straighted at an off road shop if you have one near you. I had a slight bend in my 86 axle, i took it to an off road repair shop and the guys heated it up and straightened it right there in front of me. It only took about 30mins and I was out.. The axle was perfectly straight when I got it all back together...

I went with the 83/84 250r +4 axle over searching for an another extended 86/87 200x one. I got lucky and got one, I used it for awhile, but now I keep it as a spare. Stock 83/84 250r axles are the same width as +4 86/87 200x axles, the difference is the width between the two bikes is in the hubs, 83/84r-83 - 85 200x and flat, 86/87 200x and most honda quad ones are offset ~1", splines are the same too.

Congrats...86-87 200x's are the best in my opinion. I really enjoyed both of mine. I personally think the 86-87 200x is the best all around 3 wheeler ever built, but hey thats just my opinion. I would love to get another one someday. I would even consider trading my 350x for a nice 87 200x....

I picked up a pair of 87s, I think its just because they are so few of them, is the main reason I keep them. You dont see too many 87s and fewer 87s sitting next to each other. Jim

I would like to get $1500.00 out of it...It should be worth more than that considering how rare it is but it is not in mint condition and not all orignal so around here $1500 is all i think it is worth..

how do you tell a 86 200x from a 87

how do you tell a 86 200x from a 87

87 had a red swingarm, white tank scoops, larger diameter kicker shaft, those are the obvious ones. I know there's a few more I missed.

Anyone can make an 86 an 87 as I did. Personally, I will not run an 87 gearbox because 3rd gear ratio was changed and it made the gear too thin. I have 3 broken 87 gearboxes....

Everyone wants an 87 and not allot were made but IMHO, who cares. If it has the few 87 updates installed, then it's an 87 regardless of the frame VIN.

Aside from what has been mentioned, the clutch engagement pin was changed as well as both oil orifices. There were others I found but I forget. Best change was the fatter kicker shaft and everyone should run the decompression cable to protect the 86 or 87 shaft anyhow.......

I think I listed anything I found at 3WW in my "20 day build".

An 86 is just as good as an 87 but the kicker shaft improvement was the best update.......
