Ihave a Honda 110 atc which im trying to put the head back on. I dont see the timing marks (of coarse, I dont know where to look)and i need to put the timing chain in properly. Can anyone give me a rundown on how to do this?
If it has a CDI. The cam timing mark is behind the CDI on the side of the head . you have to remove it to see the cam gear.

CID = cubic inch displacement as in "350 CID"
CDI = Capacitive discharge ignition
the cover that says "CDI" houses the ingition pulse generator and the advance mechanism. The CDI unit itself is an electronic unit that is up underneath the gas tank. Not that any of this helps with timing a 110, but I thought I'd throw it in for general knowledge. The stator coils in the alternator down under the left side crankcase cover provide the electric power for the spark, the ignition pulse generator tells the CDI module when in the cycle (ignition timing) to break the primary (when to fire).
My mistake CDI is what i ment

I knew you meant CDI. I'm glad you didn't seem to take offense. You don't have any 350X parts do you dad's ?? I think we're pretty close on the map. [gas tank?] ... :thumbsup:

Well, thats all well and good but you still havent told me what the timing marks look like or how to time the 110.

and no, i dont have any 350x parts , either.
I looked at a parts pic and you and see the gear if you do not see a timing mark you probly put the gear on backwords. some can be fliped over , the timing mark tells you which side goes out.
The side of the head should look like this when you set timing you should see the gearhttp://adam.cheshire.net/~dads/pic/head.jpg

ok, so i set the piston at tdc, then set the gear in the chain with the timing mark on gear and head aligned, right?

Yeah, that sounds right to me, but make sure you're got top dead center and that the camshaft lobes aren't holding tension on the valves. (make sure you're not going to install the gear 180 degrees out). The flywheel should have a T mark (T for TDC) that lines up in the timing hole on the case. You can't just guess at top dead center, your timing chain should be dead on, even 1 tooth off and it will run poorly. So once you have the flywheel in the right spot so that the T is right in the middle of the timing hole and the chain is on the cam gear and the notch on the cam gear is lined up with the mark on the head you're all set, try to slide the gear onto the camshaft. Once it's on and you can get the bolts started (but prior to final torque) you'll want to turn it back and forth to make sure that when the T mark comes up in the timing hole in the case that the notch on the gear still lines up correctly with the mark on the head. If nothing has changed everything should line up perfectly. It can be a pain in the *** to get it right, sometimes it takes a few tries. Good luck!

O.K., thanks Adam & Dads, I'm going to try it in the morning & hopefully I will be victorious. Either way I will let you gentlemen know how it go's, once again thanks, David Abbott
