it doesnt run right now correctly. needs carb work i think. can you tell the year by looking at it, or w/the # on the frame? i will probably ask for advice on this one as i go. not sure what to do w/it either. but i am now a 70 owner.:lmao: :lala:

Dammit!

I think it's the ninth digit in the vin that will be a letter instead of a number. That letter will tell you the year. My guess is it will be E (1984).

Looks like it has had an easy life, good pickup for sure! The 70's are a blast, welcome to the club.

Oh, the tank decails are '84 style. It seems to me the '84 is the most popular year.

Dammit!

Yeah it was the decals. I have a 1984 and a 1973 now also.

Definately '84, the '84's and '85's had that little black rubber bar pad on the bar clamps. The '84 shuold have a 4-down shift pattern where as the '85 will have a 4-up pattern. Cool little ride man, I've got an '85 myself.:D

70's don't run for crap without an aircleaner,, i think the pilot jet is just way to small stock,, tear the carb down clean everything good,,, i have found the best way to clean a stock pilot jet is with a single wire from a wire brush,, it will fit in a stock jet perfect,, i have one i filed to a screwdriver like point works perfect,,, make sure the screen is behind the petcock,, if its gone ,,, do not run any gas through it ,, the pilot jet wil plug up in minutes ,,, you will see how small it is,,, looking at the picts.. i see the tank is low in the front,, are the rubbers the tank sets on missing? and that hole in the frame..... wow did they think a bigger aircleaner would make it a fire breather? structurely i don't think it will hurt anything if you just leave it,,,

should i try to get a stock aircleaner? or does it matter? thanks for the tips on the pilot. i will use a wire from a wire brush. i just happen to be a welder so i got plenty!! at 4500 feet above see level would you put a bigger pilot in?? i meen it looks like you are saying that you would not run the stock. you say its to small in your opinion. i realy will need some help as i have never seen a need before to have a trike this small. but i will have fun working on this!!

That is for about 99.999% of all vehicles made...bike, atv, car, truck...anything with a VIN to the best of my knowledge. I'd imagine there might be an exception.

Doesn't work for my yamaha 200 dx

Like I said, 99.999%. Double check to make sure...I just did some googling and found a Yamaha moto4 that was advertised as a 1989 with an "S" in the 10th place of the VIN.

Could be a typo...not sure.

Below is the decode for a Honda ATV VIN and I know the Honda Autos use a similar breakdown. I'm going to do a lil research to see if I can find a Yamaha breakdown like below to make sure I'm not mistaken. I know almost all cars use the standardized 17 digit VIN with the 10th digit as the year. I do know of a few exceptions though. (Benz and Rover) So, I wouldn't be surprised if there were exceptions in the ATV world either. But my Banshee rings true to the 10th digit and so does my buddy's YFZ450. Not sure what the deal is with your 200.

Paste your VIN in the box and hit decode. It will at least give the VIN which will give the same results as what I already posted.
