Hello, I am new to the forum. Great and full of info by the way.
I am in the process of rebuilding my 250r. I ordered all of the gaskets needed, but was wondering if I should replace the seals? This is the first 2-stroke I have ever had, so I am anxious to learn. I had a 200x before and liked it so I figured I would get a 250r. I got it 4 $400 in fair shape. It was smoking very bad, but would run.
My thoughts were it was getting oil in from the crankcase. Also, I checked compression and it was 110 . I already have the motor out and am in the process of splitting the cases. I am not quite sure of what all has to be removed for the cases to come apart. I took all of the obvious bolts out and the clutch cover off but I can't get it to separate.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I have decided to get one of my friends to help who is a Honda Mechanic. I was trying to do it, but I realized I was about to mess up with getting the gears out of alignment. Plus, I don't really know what I am looking at as for I have never opened up a motor. I have done clutches and top-ends, but that's about all I know.
Thanks for the advice though and I will probably be back with more questions.

110 compression Call's for a Top End ... But if you ahve the fund to change bearing's & Seal's and maybe a little port work than i say go for it !

Dont all 250R's Smoke ? ? ?
i would say yes to that .... back in the 70's ... my older brother allways told me that if a 2-stroke don't smoke .... it won't last too long !! on the other hand .... a wore out motor will smoke more ...
