Would anyone know how to adjust the timing on an 84 Honda 200X? I know how to take the cover off and find the "F" mark, but I do not know how to know if it is set properly. Thanks for any help. -

sorry I can't help but I would strongly suggest you invest in a shop manual for your trike. the clymer is pretty cheap and it covers teh basics. if you can't find the info I'll try and dig out my manual. I just don't know where it is right now. :D

Its been awhile but I think you take out the little plug on the right side of the motor and line the "T" up in the hole, then take off the CDI cover on the top end and make sure the one cam bolt is on the top and one is on the bottom, not on either side of the cam sprocket. This way can be 180 degrees off so if it doens't start You'll have to rotate the cam 180 degrees, after you do that the cam sprocket bolts still will be vertical.

Thanks for the help guys, I have a shop manual on order from Amazon.com. It is like waiting on Christmas, and I'm trying to do a little beforehand if I can. Best -

Oops, I said right side of the motor, I bet that really confused you. Its supposed to be left side. You'll see two plugs in the cover infront of the sprocket, they are aluminum colored, and have to be removed with a regular screwdriver. The big one is to turn the motor over and the little one is to line up the "T" in. It might help to have the spark plug out so there is no compression. If you take out the larger aluminum plug and turn the motor over by putting a ratchet/socket on the fly wheel bolt be sure to tighten, not loosen. If you can't get the large plug out you can always turn the motor over with the kick start. Did you already know this or not?

here's what i do since running the motor to do it always makes a mess with the oil vapor.
remove both alu. plugs on stator cover get a good sized 3/8 or 1/2 in drill with reverse.
you'll also need a 1/4 hex to 1/4 square adapter available at most hardware stores and the socket that fits the flywheel bolt preferably a 6 point
remove the spark plug and position it so it's resting on clean metal and is grounded ! failure to do this can smoke the cdi
make sure the ignition sw. is on
put the drill in reverse(ccw) and have your timing lite ready
fire up the drill and begin to shine the lite thru the smaller opening
keep in mind that most stators require at least 600 rpm to operate and many prefer around 1000rpm which is about where the 200 idles anyway
the small groove in the stator cover should line up with the" F" mark on the flywheel not the t
the manual says to time it at 1400rpm although i have no freakin idea how your supposed to determine that
you can time the motor with it running but i tend to get my glasses covered with oil film before i can accomplish anything
if you need any more help just ask
