Has anyone else had a problem with the balance shaft/crankshaft gears? My son flipped my 85 250 es and after restarting it it developed a tapping sound. After tear down I found that something had fallen into the gears and bent one tooth so it binds when it comes in contact with the other gear. Can I dress the tooth to make the noise go away or will it be weakened to the point of no return? Has anyone run one of these without the balance shaft? I wonder how bad the vibration would be. One of the gears has been discontinued and I dont think I should replace one without the other. Thanks. John

I'd file it, there is no load on it. Or buy a used one but DON'T take it out!!

What the hell "fell" on it????

When I got the trike it had a broken shift shaft at the spring just inside the left side cover. I figure a few small pieces have been laying in the bottom of the engine since then. I've got the cases split and found the pieces, they dont look like teeth from a gear and Ive checked all the tranny gears and none are chipped. I dont see any other place they might have come from. Anyone got a couple of gears they want to sell? I've been watching ebay but unless I get another engine I havn't seen anything yet. Thanks.
