Here's a crappy pic of my first 350X (which is now owned by my brother, My brother's 200s (which is now sold) and my neighbors Yam Tri-moto 200. Pic was taken winter before last I believe. How about spring 2001, does that sound right?

Now there is something you dont see to often anymore. I recall a few years back when it wasnt that rare to see a bunch of trikes all out riding together. Now adays i am lucky if i even see a single trike out on our trail rides. Net alone a group of them.

And i say bring that white stuff on. If it gets to deep for the trikes then its time to pull the sleds out. :headbang: :headbang:

how do 3 wheelers work in snow should it keep up with my 4 wheeler

from my experience, a trike is alot better in the snow than a quad, think it is cuz of the weight distribution or something, or only having to push one tire. it also depends on what kind of triek you are riding though, and the type of snow, if it is powder, then they are about the same, if it is a little bit harder, but a quad still breaks threw, a trike can usually still stay on top of it and fly.

damn i still gotta scan my pics...last winter i was using my mud tires..which very closely resemble paddles :D lol so i was riding front wheel in the air...30 foot roost behind me doing 50 in the 15 inches of powder lol...by the time i got back home the skidplate had enough ice on it that i had about half an inch ground clearance:lmao: snow is some fun ****..especcially going full speed locking up the front rake and full throtteling it to do a 360!!!! yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaWWW:headbang: !!!!!

I don't have a lot of experience riding quads, but in a lot of situations they go through the snow better. When you're talking about 6-8 inches of wet heavy snow, they have an advantage in that they only have to make 2 tracks in the snow and also the rear wheels have already had the snow pushed out of the way so they get better traction. As far as maneuverabilty, I'd take a 3 wheeler any day, especially in the woods. And I'd much rather drag my ATC out of a 3-foot deep snow drift than a heavy quad. On thin ice, a similarly weighted quad would have an advantage because the weight is spread over 4 wheels instead of 3.

i think ur wrong..id think an atc would have an advantage in snow..only 1 wheel in the front to push trough..and the rears need the snow to get traction..kinda like sand...thats if u have good tires..like paddles....in powder trikes rule...in wet snow theyre better too because they dont sink in...and also on ice too because of the trikes ligter weight..so all u quads :p :2finger: :salute:

well i found out last winter that sadly quads go better in the snow then trikes, it was early december, we had just got about 10 inchs of snow(not wet heavy snow, but not powdery snow either) luckly it was a saturday and i didnt have to go to work, i hoped on my 1980 atc-185, it's tires are normal dunlap knobby's, i did a few spin-outs in the driveway then headed over to my neighbor that live's about 1/2 mile down the road, he owns a yamaha tir-moto 175, we decided to go trail rideing on our trikes, as it was we met up my three of out buddy's that had quads, a honda trx200sx, a suzuki lt-250ef quadrunner and a 1988 kawasaki 220 bayo, all except the bayo had normal knobbys on the rear, the bayo had cheg-shin lug style tires, my buddy on his tri-moto took the lead but was soon passed by the 250 and 220 me and the 200sx kept at moderet speed(maybe 15-20) long story short it seem like every time us trikers tried to pass the quads we would wind up spining, the problem, we didnt have front tires pushing/packing down the snow before our rears, so despite the fact i love trikes i must say that quads out better in the snow.

ill end the discussion right here :yup:

Quads are better in the Snow than Trikes are PERIOD

Now...my buddy who has a Big Red 250es...also has a Polaris Sportsman 500 6x6! Now THAT will take all the snow you wanna throw at it! :hail:

i don't know what trikes your riding and comparing to golf carts but your insane if you think a quad goes better in the snow then a trike i've been riding in the white stuff my whole life (unfortunatly) but those a-arms on quads not to mention that big section of frame up front do nothing but plow the snow and slow the quad down a trike is way better in this aspect however, once the 3 wheeler blazes a trail the quads can do all right and if you think a quad has a advantage on ice well theres no talking to ya on that one name me one quad that floats!!!

Technogeek
09-26-2002, 03:47 PM
thats why trikes are good in ice racing and they dont even need ice tires (studded) where as bansheeps and craptors need studs to come close to a 3 wheeler

this is starting to sound like a ford vs. chevy topic, and MR ATC i've been rideing on snow all 17 years of my life here in upstate ny and i say trike's aint bad, but quads are better.

WOW a whole 17yrs huh...man i've only had all my 3wheelers longer then that not to mention been riding in UPSTATE N.Y. way longer then that. i also remember oh... lets say 17yrs ago racing in the pro ATV class with 3 & 4 wheelers in snow scrambles and beating every golf cart. so let me get this straight your 17yrs old and been riding since the day you were born well then with that logic i have 17yrs on you or TWICE the experiance but what do i know hell you've owned your trikes since they were brand new huh all sarcastic remarks aside maybe you just can't ride a trike like you can a quad i love how all you teenagers no more then use guys that have owned them since before you were born. so since you live in upstate N.Y. how about a little wager i'll bet you all my ATC's against your quad that i can beat you in the snow.

i dont know what kind of moron you are...but a trike will kill quads in snow..maybe except the bigass 6x6s but that can be changed just by putting on sand paddles....im serious...try running sand paddles when it powders like 10 inches..ull be the fastest thing on 3 wheels..and if a quad did the same thing theyd be still slower because they will loose speed from the a arms ..as atc said....as a matter of fact ill bet my tecate250/ 200x.(when its done) ...will spank any quad u throw at it..:2finger: ..all ull be seeing is white as u try and stay near me in my 30 foot rosster tail coming off the tail pipes.....and of course ice..ahhaha...most quads speccially sport ones just sit there spinning their wheels ..unless trhe ygot some major studs....because of the front wheel..whyle my trike will go and as a matter of fact keep up with some low cc snow mobiles..i raced a kid on a 250 yamaha...likea 78 model..and spanked him with the 200x! of course i had a running start..so all u wuad riding pussies can :booty: :yup: ur mom..

Ok my opinion is trikes are better then quads in snow last year my quad sank on the nice crispy stuff the wet stuff and the powder. My 200s flew around and did dounuts and all my quad could do was throw snow out the back and sit there.
I :iluvu: snow and trikes rule it.

gezzz sorry MR ATC i was just stateing my OIPION, im not a big trike vs. quad person myself, as far as im concernd if it goes fast i wanna drive, quad, trike, dirt bike, you name it, right now my rides are 1 1980 atc-185 1 1986 atc-250es 1 1984 200es 1 1986 honda XL185S 1 1974 honda CL175 scrambler plus boneyard of other junk parts, so as you can see im someone that spends alot of time debate quad vs. trike vs dirt bike or whatever, in fact it wasent untill i came to this website that i found people that debate that question, as far as im concernd I'd rather be rideing or hunting(turky season opens tuesday!!) and btw i'd be happy to drive in the snow, xcept i dont have a quad, but you gotta come to MY place buddie, and i must say that you seem to stress that an older person is wiser, but you seem to be awfull pissed and it shows, so lern some manners.

well fellas, i gotta pipe in here. rode plenty of both in dirt, mud......AND SNOW!! every winter we have rodeos at the snomoblie club. the fastest times are from a guy riding a 250R trike. that is on hardpacked snow-ice. the same guy we go afterwards with trailriding......AT THE BACK OF THE PACK, CAN'T KEEP UP. We hit the road, he flies by. point is, both types of machines have things they do better. he has touble in the fields with lots of snow, most of the quads don't. I have both, i rather ride the GOLF CART in the snow for stability. can totally put it to the wood and not worry bout it. takes a little more attention to do that with the mighty 350X, by the way, if these pictures load correctly, get a set of these, and findout what a 3 or 4 wheeler can really do in the snow!:fire: :hail:

well im not saying anything to step on my tounge but i live in british columbia canada and man let me tell you we get snow here and lots of it which is not a big deal but when you add in the mountains it becomes a little more intense . Last winter me and my bud and his foreman es quad decided to go trail breaking after a big storm and it was all up hill in powder about 2 feet high and he had it in diff lock 4 low and i was on my 225 dx and i tell ya it was a even run for performance except when he got stuck (foreman=heavy) me i just turn on side and drag till im free . so if you think about it there are ups and downs to both . as for tires i use these (see pic) and mud or snow i keep on movin

DUDE!! That looks like a HOT Yam 225!! I have those same tires on my 350X... they seem to go a lot better in the snow than the regular knobbies. Come to think of it, I have wooley boogers on my YAM 225DR which are almost the same as those too. I need to work on my Yam.... rear axle needs attention.
