It ran ok, but seemed to surge when idling and then began to spew gas out of the bowl overflow. Here's a few pics of the carb. ....not sure what to do other than clean it  what should I use? Should I take anything off or apart? I read that Kasey uses a wire from his wire brush to clean out the jets ...Just wanted to ask before I start rippin things apart. thanks dudes!

Slide the pin out of the float and take the little valve things out. See if there is crud in it and verify that the rubber tip is still kinda soft.

Take the petcock off of the side and check for crud under there too, a little screen hides inside.

what should I do with the jets?

I would take them out and make sure they are clean. The main has just one hole, but the pilot has several. Make sure they are all open.

just unscrew them out? should I pay attention to any detial I dont know about that I should? hehe not sure that made any sense! just want to know if there ia anything to watch out for here.
I guessing the main is the piggy backed one and the pilot is the single?
Do you need a special tool to get these out?
Torque specs? or just good'n tight?

Your tank is full of crud. Take it somwhere dark and stick a small flashlight on the end of a piece of coat hanger. You can stick the flash in the tank and look through the gas cap. pay more attention to the side where the fuel lines attach. You will need to get the crud out.

On the right side in the pic, the black O-Ring and the little screen pop out of the carb bowl. Clean them up. The valve on the left, just scrape and clean it. Flush the lever side to get crud out of there too.

As for the jets, the main is the larger one that sticks out further, and is line with the slide so the needle goes into it. I would use a hex socket, not try to use the screw driver slot. The pilot is the smaller one off to the side. You will find out that the pilot is longer.

You still need to remove the float, I bet there is crud in the float valve. When removing the float, pay attention to the little spring wire that attaches the float valve.

Chris, do you use any flavor of IM??

msn instant msngr - sirkoggs@hotmail.com just let me know via email koggs @ wvi. com when you're going to be on.

kewl. Thanks for the help Dale. It's been a busy weekend but have started the clean-up. Not sure how to take out the smaller jet w/out a screwdriver ...are the shoulders of the jet that fragile? I will be carefull. !

I'll look into the tank and see if it looks as bad as I think. Not sure what I can use to get the gunk off inside. ...new tank?

Oh I also noticed the air/idle? adjustment screw was screwed all the way in. Is there a setting that is recommended with this? ie: screw all the way in and back out 1.5 turns etc. ....? or do you just start with it in the middle and adjust on the fly?

Gettin a good jump on the off season. :lmao: Might have to take to forks to the powder coat dude. :headbang:

not looking too good inside. can't tell much from the picture but trust me ! It's had a small leak in the bottom corner for a while before I got it. wonder if that's what's caused the chunky build-up. ---Gas cap kinda sez it all.

Any ideas on how to clean the inside?

Chris

I am ATCnut@Comcast.net on MSM messanger

I added you to my list, I have messanger up all the time when I am online, I will look for you

There have been several threads about cleaning the inside of the tank. There is acid, nuts and bolts in a paint shaker, and other chemical methods.

Then you probably need to put some kind of coating on the inside

Use the best fitting stright blade you can on the pilot jet, and be gentle. If you are careful it will come out OK.

One way to know if you are making progress is to clean the carb, and then see if it runs better by putting a long hose on the gas tank of a taller trike parked alongside.

If the tank is too far gone, it might just need replaced. There are plastic tanks available (I prefer metal)

here is a tech tip,,,, i use a wire from a wire brush to clean pilot jets,, with a good small file you can file it flat on the end like a mini screwdriver works in the dirtiest jets too,,,,,,,,,,

kewl thanks Kasey.
It's tank time tonight. Then I'll put it back together for a test run.

How did you get your motor so clean?
