i just bought a 86' that does not have a decomp cable, its not to hard to kick but somtimes starts on 2nd kick, somtimes it takes 5or6 kicks, would a cable make a dif. in starting? if so are they hard to install? bike idles and runs great.

they don't help starting. just makes it easyer to kick over when you have good compression.

Dads has it.... Sounds like the compression is low because a good healthy 350X is not easy to kick over at all....

make sure the cable is not to tight. I use 1/8 to 1/4 of a inch play in the cable .

not trying to hijack the thread, but understand a bit more:

what happens if the cable is too tight?

the compression release could be open a little bit all the time

350x shouldn't be hard to kick over. neither of the ones ive had are/were hard to kick. neither had decompression cables.

one was 11:1 and 393cc but i got big legs i guess.

My built 350x is a pain to kick with our without the compression release. But the others are too tearbly bad. but the release does help alot.

If its too tight
Major loss of power because valves will be left open and in worse case seniro piston hits a valve and bends the valve.

thanks for the info, i figured out today why it was not starting good, i pulled the plug, think it was the orig. from 86' haha
we took it on a long ride got home still warm and did not want to hit, so i pulled the plug and it looked to be burning fine, but the plug itself just looked ruff, so ran up to the part store got 1, and so far i've started 5 times and every start is on the 1 or 3 kick, im happy!!! when i bought the bike last week the owner told me how he put a new dg pipe, kn filter, and a jet kit on the bike this year, i took for granted there was a new plug, if i did all of that work there sure would have been a 3 dollar plug bought.
