86 200x running lean
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I rebuilt the whole motor and my exhaust pipe gets RED HOT...Glows RED at night...I have Weisco 10:25 piston in it...Not much of a boost but the bike idles sort of but it will turn off..what is wrong with it..Their is no air leaks...Has new seals on the carb intake..Anythng else...I have an after market exhaust..The exhaust looks like the headpipe is thin but I know its running lean...Any help...Carb came off running 86 and it is clean inside.Jets are clean and not plugged...
Ok I took the plug off and its black? Plug is new
Ran it a couple of days ago without air filter and it ran better whrn with air filter on..Airbox not plugged and the filter is clean...

You say the plug is black??? Sounds rich. Rich can make the pipe glow red too. Check valves and carb. Sounds like choke plate closed. May be flooding???
OR VALVE TIMING could be off. Sounds like you just installed new topend???

not choke...I am thinking the valves....how Do I determine if the valve timing is off..I know its timed right...Nit hard to time those engines..The head is rebuilt..I had a guy so it for me..You know what I am thinking I just have to RUN it..I mean it has a new piston and valves..Maybe it just needs use but I am scared of frying it up...So I loosen valves or tighten them? Wont run as good when the choke is open al the way...Half ways it runs better...

Your carb settings could be WAY off, Running lean at an idle and rich and WOT thats where the black on the plug comes from and the hot exhaust.
You can get new jets at wilsons, claswsons But i recomend to go visit my friends at Centeral Valley Honda, (im in there several times a week) Tell the lady that sits behind the desk in the center or Dallas that Nick sent you.

some times if it runs better when the choke is half way up it could mean that your air/gas ratio is off.

Ok. Im going to put my $0.02 in hear. I a while back got a "81 Honda ATC 200 from a guy, paid $250 for it with a seized up motor (or so he thought:D ) Took me half an hour to unseize the motor. Anyway after that I took it out for a ride and it did what yours is doing

Double check and see if you choke isn't on (look though the air boot and see if it is shut or open). Down should be choke is off (or open) and Up should be choke is on (or shut). If it isn't on, take the carb COMPLETELY APART and see if you have any gunk in it (defantly around the float bowl needle area, because if there is ANYTHING in that area, it will hold the needle open causing it to run rich, which inturn will cause a black plug and glowing exhaust). If that doesn't fix it, take carbcleen (or starting fluid) and spray it all around and at the carb mounts, and clamps. If it dies (or revs up if you use starting fluid) you have a vaccum leak right there and that is your problem (like a gasket or something). If none of that fixes it, check the pipe and make shure it isn't pluged or something (like a mouse nest or something) because it will cause the same sysmtoms (Been there, done that, Yamaha pipe is alot louder now :chuckle: :headbang:  ) If anything it should be two lean from the mods insted of two rich, (plug being black is a sign) so something is more wrong than just jeting. Also check you valve clearance and make shure it is around 0.005" or so.Cam Timing is a b***h on these motors and you have to take the flywheel, housing, and CDI off in order to do it right. Anyway that is my 2 cents. Hope this helps you out:thumbsup:
Good luck:thumbsup:
