i have just finished assembling my 85 200x. after i finally finished tried to turn it over and it got to a certant point and just stoped, like the piston was hitting something. its really annoying because ive been waiting for about two weeks for the parts and now it screwed up. thanx for any help:wtf:

sounds like the cam timing is off and the piston is hitting a valve.......

I have to agree. valve timing is off, recheck it.

is it possible for the valves to stay in the open posetion and not recoil back into the head? like if the springs were bad or something?

not really. unless the spring/retainer is broken and the valve fell down

What is it doing that you think its locked up?

Like are you trying to kick start it and the kicker will not turn it over?
It might be your kicker gears...
Mine just did this to me. Locks it up solid, even standing and jumping on the kicker won't get it to turn over... But rocking it back and forth in gear seems to free it up then I get a couple more kicks out of it, then it locks up again.... Now the kicker is striped though, so not even that works...

no thats why i was building a new motor.. the kicker gear went out. but i did get the problem with the piston fixed. i just pulled the motor back apart and put it back together, i guess it was the timing after all.

You guess??

If you popped off the timing plugs and checked that would have told you without taking apart the motor again.

Here goes another motor..... Uggggggh :(
