I just got a Honda 250r ATC.:headbang:
I don't know what year it is.
It is air cooled.
It has the dual headlights like on a 350x.
It has the little plastic air scoops on each side of the fuel tank.
Can any body help me out?
(Don't have pics yet- i just picked it up. It's still in my enclosed trailer & its raining.)
Can i figure it out by the VIN # ?
I'm thinking maybe an '84... ??

Sounds like it's and '83 or '84 to me. The dual headlights would be from a 350x, they are the only hondas to have that setup but it a popular swap, putting 350x headlights on something else.

Thanks.
Did 85-86 have liquid cooling?
This is my first 2 stroke atc.
It fires, but has very little compression. I'll pull it apart soon.
Most likely rings, piston or reed valve. Correct ???
I got it from a guy who had the top end rebuilt & a week later it lost power while riding. He said it had lost compresion, and would back-fire when he tried to restart it...
Can you put the later model top end on it if its an '84? Or would you want to?

does it have a skinny front wheel? 81-84 have the same motors, any MOTOR part will change over, it doesnt matter what cylinder or head you use either of the 4 years will work, if its low on compresion, what you shoudl do is just get a piston and rings have the cylinder bored and honed and call it a day

yeah, skinny front wheel (gold, appears to be factory.) That mean 83-84?
Rear wheels are 10" aluminum aftermarket.
I just read in the manual that you're supposed to use 20:1 gas/oil mixture.
Is that correct?
Previous owner said he was using 50:1 like in his chain saws, etc.
He also told me he had the jug bored & an oversized piston in it.
Don't know the oversize yet. Hope i got room to bore it again.
If not, what about the 300cc kits? Same stroke, just oversized cylinder & piston right? Worth the money??
