First off, how do I adjust the cam chain on a 1985 engine?

Also, I have a flat spot mid throttle. If I rev it slowly it is ok but anything other then a slow rev will have it bog out. It doesn't do it as much when the choke is on. I checked the valves and they are good, carb. is clean and I have messed with the needle. The points are set with the timing light dimming right at the F mark like they are supposed to, the gap is at the smallest allowed. Compression seems good (it should, new stock piston and rings). Cam timing looks good, I'm sure the cam chain could be adjusted but it doesn't seem too loose. Any thoughts on what to check?

Make sure the fuel filter is not obstructed. If that's ok then go back to the carb. You've got some junk or something in there somewhere.

ok, I should have time to check tomorrow.

Any one know about the cam chain?

On the cam chain.

On the left side of your trike (on the side the flywheel is on) Looking at the cylinder, On the tranny case right beside the cylinder there will be a rubber cover. Take that cover off. There will be a bolt and a locking nut. Loosen the nut and then twist the bolt conter clock wise (or loosening the bolt). Members corect me if I'm wrong but I think loosening that bolt will tighten the chain, and tighting that bolt will loosen that chain. When you do this I recommend having the CDI off the head. You don't want your chain super tight, but tight enough that your timing doesn't variate (change). I'll try to get some picks up tonight or tommaro.

Good Luck and Have a Happy New Year!

I forgot to add in the last post. The Flat spot in your trike. As Flying W said Check you fuel filter, If that isn't it, I'd recommend checking your carb, tank, and fuel line, in that order. Also check your spark plug, That would do it to.

Again Good Luck!
