Guys,
I was given a 1981 70 for doing some ATV wok for a friend. He aslo have me an 82frame and motor. Since I tend not to do factory spec restorations I've been debating on whether to rebuild the 82 motor since its a 4 speed or buy a larger Lifan motor. The delima is by the time I buy all the parts to rebuild the 82 motor to include a 88cc bore kit, I would have spent far more than it would cost to buy a turn key Lifan motor. The Lifan has electric start and a kicker. I guess where I'm hitting a wall is, does a Lifan motor bolt right in? This is my first 70 and I'm basically doing it up for a couple of the neighbor kids ride as well as myself to goof around on. I can get a Lifan motor for about 350.00 and it's new.
Can I put a larger Lifan motor in my 70. 110, 125, 138cc
What would you do?????
Mr. Richard

THE LIFAN IS A DIRECT BOLT IN,, there are a few issues , nothing serious though,, and shop around i have several lifans and the most i payed was $269 shipped for a 125cc 4 speed model ,,,,, you can get them in 3 or 4 speed manual or automatic,,, all up or down shift paterns too,,,, i was in your situation on a build also,,, i went witha lifan,,,, best decision i made lifan all the way!!!

What were the issues? Right now I'm thinking the Lifan is the cost cost effective way to go. I still have to buy all the plastics, tank , wheels, and tires so i have many more things to buy.
Mr. Richard

lol,,, depending on the size of the carb you might have carb to tank clearance problems,, different manifolds are avalible to help out,, you will have to mount a battery not a big deal,, if you do a manual clutch you will have to come up with a foot brake,, just little things like that,,,,,,, more and more guys are doing it too ,, some are even converting to pullstart,,,

good information Kasey. You're very helpful. Thanks.
Mr. Richard

no problem,, i just converted a 125cc lifan to pullstart,, without electric start and a battery the kicker hits the fender and tire,, so i didn't want to have to build a flip up seat,,

Right now I'm toying with the idea of doing a custom such as yours then I ran across these pics. I think this is an awsome look. I'd love to know the details of this one.

who knows where that thing is now,,, it was owned by 4 people on glamisdunes,,, nobody a real trike lover,, i think they all wanted to make a buck ,, it was sold to a guy on the east coast shipped from cali them sold back to a guy in cali so it was shipped back,, then had 3 owners in about 6 months ,, it was on ebay 3 times,, i got a chance to look it over at the regatta last year,,, it was pretty cool alot of thougt went into it,,, it just needed some love and attention it had issues,,, last time it sold i didn't see where it went,,

He probobably wears those socks with his sporty slipon sandles. What a dork....
The issues it had was that it broke a foot peg.
Brian the owner at the time is a pretty good size guy.
He also doesn't like wrenching, The broken foot peg pissed him off,
so He sold it to Atlas the "Dork"
in the picture. Atlas is a trike lover he just wanted to use the $4500 he got from that bike to fund more builds.
It is a sweet bike, I have ridden it and it handles well and rips,
There isn't another mini-trike like it period.
Have a great day

What was the foundation for the trike Tres? Frame, front end, plastic, seat etc. Any knowledge of this. I dig the way that thing looks.

I have about 10 zillion pics of this bike , but here are a few....
Bike was a one off creation built my friend Travis at Sterdy Products
The bike really is a work of art, the pics don't even come close to the detail in the bike. ATC 70? I think thats a stretch. But one damn cool mini-trike thats for sure! :D
Oops.... Sorry,
that last pic is of a A+ we did ....
Don't want to bore you all with that one :D

Made some good progress this weekend. As anticipated, there were a few issues thus far. The Lifan head is a bit longer so I had to trim about an inch off the front fender. The carb does ride a hair high and hits the tank but I'll see if my machinist will mill about 1/8" off the intake. I bought a CRF50 exhaust and it's real close but I need to take the pipe to a muffler shop and have 2 bends put in it. I'm going to drop off my seat and have a new cover put on it. I flipped the rear brake handle over to the right as the motor I bought is a manual clutch. I hope to find a short clutch cable that will work. If not, I'll have one made up. I now have to build a wiring harness. I have all the parts so now I just have to connect everything. The headlight I installed is a Harbor Freight 35w chinese made 14 dollar special. I had 2 extra 350X enging mounts so I welded them to the forks for the headlight mounts. I'll post more as I get things together.

Looks great so far, I like the headlight and for the price it is even better!
I hate to be the one to say it but.... do you know that you have the front fender mounted on backwards?

Looking very nice!!! Keep the pics coming, I see you have the Three Valve motor, can't wait to hear how that runs, ought to be fast.

A few more pics. Today I took a the exhaust pipe to work and tweaked it a bit. Never mind the blueing in the pic. I'm gonna wrap the header in that fiberglass exhaust wrap. First to protect the rear fender as the pipe is about a half inch from it and also to keep from burning my leg. I made a 1/2 inch spacer to stand off the muffler bracket from the grab bar.
One thing that baffles me is the muffler slips on to the header pipe but there's no clamp or anything to seacure and seal the muffler to the exhaust pipe. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to put a gasket or some high temp sealant in that joint????
I also had to bend down the foot pegs to accomodate the longer shifter shaft on the clone motor. I used a 350X shifter which worked out great. I also had the intake pipe machined down 1/8 inch to keep the gas tank from resting on the carb slid cap.
And, as you can see in the pics some of the badging and decals I had made up. More to come.

Well, this weekend has been very productive. I got all the little nit noid stuff finished. Brakes work, clutch works, and throttle works. I spent several hours building a wire harness and ringing out the electrical. Getting the battery and the wires to tuck up inside the frame was tricky. There is just barely enough room for everything. I wrapped the head pipe with fiberglass wrap. Tomorrow i'll put gas in it and see if it lights. The only thing left is to get my seat back from my upholostrer on Tuesday. I decided to eliminate the front fender. I think it looks better without it. Anyway, I can't wait to see how she runs. I'll post some finished pics when I get my seat back. I hope to take all the parts I have remaining and put together 2 beaters to play on.

Celebrate...... she fired right up. Everything worked (lights, start, kill). I guess I did something right. The gas tank leaked at the hose nipples but a little epoxy took care of that. That pipe I put on gives it a real throaty sound. Now I just need my seat to be done.
That thing is just SICK! Awesome work :hail: :hail: :hail:
How 'bout a pic or two of the handlebar controls?
Again, that's beautiful work!
