Hey... Bruce "Hondaline" Hartman here... btw I love having the forum separated to 70's only.
Anyhow... I got a 85 ATC70 in pretty original shape. When I got it, the guy said to make sure to shut the fuel off after riding 'cause it flooded easy, blah blah blah.
I picked up a carb kit and Raffa and I proceeded to rebuild it. The carb itself looked pretty good, but we found that the previous owner plugged off the overflow tube. We cut the plug out and finished putting the carb back together. I installed it back in the 70 and it started dripping straight through the overflow again.
I took the carb back off and attempted to adjust the float, put it all back together and it still drips through.
What's the secret here?? The float is all "plastic"... has anyone tried the aftermarket ones or should I buy a new float from HONDA?
Thanks!
Bruce

sounds like the seat is bad,,, check to see if the kit needle is the same length as a stock one,,, look closely at the seat ,,

never thought to compaire needles.. hope he still has the old one..
Also make sure the floats don't have fuel in them. Over time they can absorb fuel. I've seen it happen with several carbs over the years. More than likely it's the seat, just as Kasey said.
Good luck with it!

Ahhh... found the old thread on this.
My nephews were down this weekend so they begged me to ride the lil 70. I had it stored straight up on the grab bar, since the tank drained everything through it last year.
So, I put a little gas in it, and it started right up. Kids rode it and it was fine. I turned the gas to "OFF" and let it sit for a bit, and it was fine - - nothing leaking.
I put it back in the shop and left it down on all 3 since there was some gas still in the tank. I went back to the farm to pick up some parts, and sure enough... the whole shop reaked of gas and a big black puddle under the 70.
So... can I fix it or should I just buy a different carb???

might want to replace the float needle and clean the seat real well, I run a Q-tip or small brush in the seat to make sure no crud is on the seat. I do not know where you got your carb kit from but try one from either a dealer on a more name brand part. I have used some on the cheaper stuff and had problems with gaslets and such not fitting.
Good Luck

Seems like it was K & L or something?? Guess I'll revert to Honda for a new float valve/seat and possibly a new float. :duck:
Blue is correct you do not need the float just this:

Hmmm... for the $33, I'd have to go with this one. http://www.dratv.com/atsakitrest1.html
I'm wondering if mine doesn't leak around the petcock in the "off" position.

Yeah.... Or just say screw it and get this one...
http://www.sterdyproducts.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=48&idproduct=98
as the seat in the carb could still be damaged and be the problem.
and now your down $33 + $99 + shipping & your time and frustration
Oh yeah, and the petcock leaking is a whole different issue than leaking out of the overflow.
In that case the kit you posted would do the trick, for now.

sounds like my '85,tried everything yall said nothing worked then had someone tell me to clean the small hole in the center of the carb. First time doing that so I don't know the term, had to use a piece of wire to clean it. Stopped leaking, still needs to be replaced, REPLACE IT!! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR'
