We siezed the motor on my son's blaster last weekend. The cylinder doesn't appear damaged, but there is aluminum from the piston on the cylinder wall. Can it be honed off or will it have to be bored to get it off? How about muriatic acid? It seems like I read something about using that years ago. If so, where would I purchase that?

your going to have to measure the bore to determine whether to bore or hone ,, more important is to figure out why it seized,,, and prevent it from happening again ,you don't want to cook another piston,,,,,,,,,

The problem was wrong jetting. It's my own fault and I think I've got it figured out now. The thing is, the machine is hardly used and really not ready for a fresh top end already.

Weve gone thru 5 pistons in our blaster, most of the time its the base gasket that lets go and fries a big hole in the piston. With the alum. stuck to the sidewalls a shop will probably tell you it needs a bore, the acid will work, but its time consuming and you have to get it all out, the hone wont remove it. We have a local shop here we take the cyl. to, he'll bore it, new piston/rings(he sets the end gap) and all the gaskets for less than $200 bucks

Yeah, the more I think about it, I'm just gonna have it bored. It's only an extra 40-50 bucks, and I know it will be right.

on a blaster use a cast piston. ther is also a trike of drilling oil lude holes in the piston. the holes go between the transfer ports and the ex ports. the holes need to be drilled on a angle so that when fuel is forced up into the piston it has access to enter the hole. this will lude and cool the area next to the ex port. this is where most pistons sieze. this has been around since early 60,s

yeah i forgot about that ,,, i drill all of mine too ,,,two small holes that line up with the exahust bridge, if the blaster has a split ehahust port,,, that i do not know,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

What size holes are we talking? I've got wire gauge bits that go really small.
