I believe a lighter flywheel will allow the engine to rev higher thus bettter top end. A heavire flywheel produces more tourqe for bottom end.

The lightened flywheel mainly will give a more snappier throttle response as there is less weight for the engine to muscle.

Welcome to the board!

The Pro's and cons on lightend flywheels.

The Pro's:
When you lighten a flywheel you are taking away rotating mass from the motor, which inturn lets the motor rev up faster and quicker. Also when you do this mod, being you are taking away rotating mass, you are going to see more HP numbers at the wheel. Because now that the motor doesn't have to put out hp to rotate the heaver flywheel, it can now direct that power and put it to the ground. Hope this made sence.

The Cons:
When you lighten a flywheel you are taking away rotating mass, which takes away torque.

So if this trike is a workhorse, hill climber, I wouldn't recommend this mod. Now in saying that, If this trike is going to be used for dragracing, duning, then by all means, DO THIS MOD! You won't regret it.

Now on balancing this motor. In my opinon, every flywheel should be balanced. Your motor will be smoother and you won't be scared of revving the snot out of it. Plus when you balance a flywheel, you have less chance of bolts and nuts looseing up.
Theres my $.02

Hope this helps you out in your disicion.
