The swingarm pivot bolt is supposed to slide out. You need a long drift and a big hammer.

sorry i posted in the wrong forum...so just keep bangin the hell out of it huh? What about the little brackets that go around the screw? The brackets have threads that go to the back of the frame....?

unless you have alot of money and tools. leave the swing arm alone. paint it with the arm on the frame. taking the arm off could cost you ove a 100 bucks and take WEEKS to find new parts

200x's are common for having the bushings rusted to the bolt so it won't pound out. I have used a very big hammer and they still wouldn't budge, the brackets with threads are for tightening the chain, you loosen the big nut on the end of the swing arm bolt and then tighten/loosen each bracket the same on each side of the frame so the chain stayes inline with both sprockets. There has been a few ways to get the bolt out, like bending or cutting the frame, I think someone should try to get a sawz All inbetween the swing arm and frame on each side and just cut the bolt and possibly some of the seal, that would be way better than ruining the frame. Then all you'll need is a new bolt, bushings, seals.

hmm...cutting it sounds like a good idea...i just dont want to jack up my frame...i am going to take it to a shop tomorrow to see if they can remove it for me...I also found a place that said that they can rebuild my crank for about $150, so we will see...
BTW, does anyone know the answer to my last question in the performance forum under the heading 12:1 piston? If not...here it is...
Is there any advantage to going with a 66 mm piston from powroll.com over a weisco 66 mm piston from dennis kirk? the weisco piston is about half the price of the powroll? It doesnt say what comp. ratio the weisco is though? Any ideas?
Also, going with a 66 mm piston, what does that bored the cylinder over to? .060? or what?

taking a pivot bolt out it incredible simple.
Put it up on a jack after you get the nut off the bolt....thenuse a mallet to push the bolt out.....
youll need to move the swingarm up and down so it freely will come out...alittle liquad wrench will help.
then get something to push the bolt out...do NOT use a screwdriver or anything with a pointy tip.

hmm...well, i went to the shop today, and they said saws-all, and $100 in labor to remove it...So i just went to sears, bought a saws-all, and cut one side of the bolt before the damn saw blades snapped. I am pissed. I am taking it back. Anyway, so there is one side left, and even when i finally get it cut somehow, i dont know how i am going to get the rod out of the swingarm.
200XRYDER, i have tried moving the swingarm up and down, and hitting it, and everything...it wont budge...

You need an anvil and the right size punch. Your punch needs to be the exact same size as the bolt. It sounds like your frame is absorbing the impact of the hammer. If you have someone help you hold your frame over an anvil and stop the thing from bouncing it should help. Keep trying.

well, i am going to try to cut the other side later tonight or tomorrow. I took the saws-all back. So i am going to have to think of something. I think my friend has one. I thought about taking a larger drill bit, and drilling the head off of it, then just trying to get the swingarm out. I sure hope the bolt comes out somewhat easy once i get the swingarm off the trike...

I did use the sawz-all technic on mine.. it was the biggest pain-in-the-arse operation ive ever done to my trike, had to cut in 4places and lots of sawz all blades..BTW it was close to $300 bucks for all new bushings/bearings/dustcaps.. the bolt alone was $65. So I pull it all apart every year, just to make sure i can

well, i am going to have to find another saw all. I think i might just go buy another so i finally can get this done. My piston, rings, crankshaft, cam, valvesprings, and carb kit should be here this weeek, so i need to get this thing apart, painted, and put back together. Where is the best place to buy all the parts for the swingarm? I mean the bolt and bushings and what not? Partsfish?

the answer is you won't find parts on servicehonda.com. what you've got to do is call them (don't email) and order what you want.

and btw, for all the bushings, bearings, and new nuts and bolt to remount the swingarm, it was like $160 with shipping fomr servicehonda.com. Now though, i will probably take it apart at least once a year like someone said they do just to make sure it doesnt rust up on me. The inside of my swing arm is horribly dirty too. I need like a wire brush to clean it good i think...

Did you cut it out or pound it out? If you cut the bolt on each side of the swing arm between the frame, did all the stuff then slide out?
JxxxOxxxE
10-07-2002, 10:13 PM
well, like i said before, i cut one side, if you are siting on the trike, i cut the left side. The i busted the dust seals off both sides to give it a little of play, then bent the swingarm to the side, without bending the frame, and slid the swingarm off the collar. The bolt and collar were stuck together. The i cut about 1/3 to 1/2 the way through the bolt on the right side, and then bent it back and forth by hand until it broke...not bad...? I got some red paint on it tonight, its looking good...

A sawzall!!! That's totally useless. You might as well be using a wooden club! Use a mini grinder with a thin cut off wheel. It'll be done in no time! BTW this will get the swingarm off of the trike, but the remainder of the bolt will need to be pressed out . That's the simplest way....
