WOW! There are some GREAT stories in this thread. I'm sure we'd all love to see pics of your trikes, Bruce! Welcome to all the new members and please don't be afraid to speak up and share! Also make sure to take advantage of all of the experience, knowledge, and resources available to you on this site.
My name is Chip and I've been around here since I got my '87 250SX back in 2002. I never owned a trike as a kid, just dirt bikes of many different varieties. I did ride some trikes as I was growing up and was always intrigued by the balance and skill that it took to keep 'em wheels down! In college I had a buddy that had golf carts (quads) and I got to ride those quite a bit. I went through the street bike phase until Nashville began growing so fast, and got so many idiotic drivers, that I started getting scared for my life (that'll happen as you get older!) I sold my street bike but continued bumming rides on various friends' quads and dirt bikes.
Anyway, in '02 I was visiting one of my customers and I stumbled across the SX. It was the proverbial "stored in the barn" story. He bought her new in 1988 as an upgrade from his Suzuki ALT125. He rode her for about a year then she bucked him hard, breaking a few ribs. He parked her in the basement of his dad's plumbing shop and never rode her again. Didn't even drain the gas - you should've smelled how skanky that was! When I saw her I knew that she was meant for me so I got him drunk and, with the help of one of his best friends, talked him into selling her to me for $500! That's when I found this site. I read and read and read as much as I could. I asked a few questions, and a few more questions. Then, after an oil change, a thorough tank cleaning, a little carb cleaner, a new plug, a new air cleaner, and a little tinkering (timing and valve adjustment), she was alive again.
That's all it took - I was hopelessly hooked. Since then I've acquired another SX, a 110, a 70, and the 350X. I don't have near the skills (or time) to turn out a work of art like a lot of these guys & gals on here can produce, but I still love riding. I tend to come & go on here depending on how much of my time is required by my 8 yr old son (many of us know how that works, I'm sure!) It's hard for me to believe that when I joined this site he was only 2 !!
My long-term goal is to join in on a group ride with some of the great folks here. And, as much as I'd like to, the west-coast get togethers are probably not a realistic ambition. Maybe one day I can join the gang on the sand in Mississippi or even get a crew to hit the woods over in east TN.
You will find that this is, BY FAR, THE BEST trike site on the net and I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say "WELCOME!"
