No...The # is located up on the steering head...where the forks and clamps are attached to the frame.

The 87 had a key and a rolled lip on the rear rims....

sounds like a 84 where is the radiator? On the forks or beside the tank? Drum brake on the front or disc?

That sounds like an 84 if it has drum brake up front.

I drool when I see '86+ Tecates in nice shape. They're like a 3 wheeled dirt bike.

any decent motorcycle shop can help. i like to go to the independent shops, supporting the small independent bike shops, keeps the after market building parts for us! i also find the independents have more time to discuss your project, and offer up plenty of experience and advice. they can check your cylinder, and determine if it needs or can be bored, do the machine work and get you the parts. the stealerships may or may not support 20+ year old equipment, it seems to vary from place to place.

Single radiator behind the headlights and front drum brake makes it an '84. They're still great trikes and very fast. The originally came with a nikasil sleeve so if you still have that then you can't bore it. You will have to resleeve it. However, many have already been resleeved to regular sleeves. You will just have to check. You will need to take the jug to a local kawi or any cycle shop that does engine work to find out. Good luck!

well Tecates are not Hondas, they shake alot!, but if its tuned right you will be pleasantly surprised at how it runs, I just sold this bike not too long ago, but Man was it a kick in the pants, and it was insanely quick (faster than my R by a long shot)

you're not going to have much of a selection...you can't exactly peruse dennis kirk and pick the one you like best anymore. :D  Just use whatever pipe you can find for it and be happy.

talking with Kasey at the Rally and I was told that the Hondas had a fabric inside the stock pipes, and that you could remove it weld the pipe back together and it ran much better.... If you have no other choice, you might split the seam and and see if thats the case with yours and try it.
