Hello,
Been doing some research here on Tank Sealers. I have a 250sx tank that does not leak but has quite a bit of rust inside. I plan on cleaning it out with HCL first. Is POR-15 still the best sealer out there? Thanks

PO-15 is badass. I sealed a 200x tank and it was tough!

Good stuff! Messy though.

Redcote works well too. I just used that 3 bottle kreem kit on my 350x tank. seems to be holding up ok so far. hey maniac,, that SX I sold you that tank was redcoted. the former owner said over 10 years ago. that seemed to hold up very well.

I saw that... I have another SX tank that I am looking to seal. I hope to have the "Farmer Special" :bitchfigh on the road again real soon. I already have a dash and this tank I am sealing will be a backup incase I jack up the petcock tube trying to bend it back. I also have a headlight on the way from Dale. Just need to free up some time to work on it.

I hope everything works out good for ya. that was one dependalbe tank... till it got bustsed up. never once let me down. This kreem I just used seems tobe holdup up failry well. I guess any of them will work good as long as the tanks are prepped properly.

back to your topic. I dont wanna be a:postwhore

I am not a kreem fan at all, I have a 250sx tank that I got to strip out because the kreem get too thick and starts cracking after time. I am also a firm believer in redkote also.

I just replaced the tank on my SX. When I bought the trike 3 months ago the metal tank had a patch on the tank where some a**hat welded a patch panel into the old tank. It didn't leak but had a sealer put in the tank. You could see where whoever welded it missed as the sealer had leaked out of the tank and dried. I bought a plastic tank off EGAY and am happy with it. Also when they sealed it they had the gas cap on it and sealed that too. The trike would run for a while and then start to die, if you where quick and opened the cap it would stay running.

I just sealed my 250sx tank this past weekend with the KBS product. My tank was rusty and had a pin hole. I sealed the pin hole with black plumbing tape to retain the Klean cleaner, Rust Blast and Sealer. It has been a couple of days and I plan to removed the tape in a few days after the sealer fully cures.

I only had one previous experience with sealing a tank and used the Kreem product at that time and was not happy with the results. Just seems that the Kreem product never holds well. I have seen several tanks that were coated with Kreem and the white coating was peeling.

I wish I would have taken a before pic of the inside.

The KBS sealer is a three step process.

1. Klean
Just a cleaner that is mixed 1:1 with hot water used to clean the tank.

2. Rust Blast
Be sure the tank is completely dry before using the Rust Blast. This step was amazing. The directions indicated to not leave it for more than one hour, however I left it in for 1.5 hours and was very happy with the results. I would shake the tank and then let it sit for approx 5 to 10 min and shake it again. The results were amazing and the Rust Blast removed most of the rust.

3. Sealer
I poured most of the 1 pint can into the tank and rolled the tank around to cover all of the surfaces. I then let the tank sit for 10 to 15 min and then rolled it around again. I did this several times before pulling the plug from the petcock and draining most of it from the tank. It is difficult to drain all of the sealer since the placement of the petcock does not allow it. I continued to let the tank sit for several minutes at a time to let the sealer tack up before rolling the tank around again. This allowed most of the sealer to stick to the sides of the tank, so that it would not puddle in the bottom.

I picked it up off eBay.. I'm a believer and was willing to try another product.
I got the set for the large tank, just in case a needed a little extra and it was nice to have the extra Klean cleaner and Rust Blast. I still have some cleaner left and used all of the Rust Blast.

Product was $36, plus $8 shipping to CA.

Oh, almost forgot.. Shipping is extra fast from the seller and they also include a stir stick, applicator brush (didn't use) and a pair of heavy latex gloves.

Next, I'm refinishing and painting the tank. I picked up some Dupli-Color "cherry red" automotive touch laquer spray paint at Auto Zone.

Here's another picture of the inside of the tank after the product has cured. I'm also included some pictures of what I did with the plumbing tape to seal the hole that I had in the tank.
