View Full Version : Lifan questions for 70 experts

Alright so I scored a Lifan engine for $31 because there's supposedly something wrong with it. I haven't really got to start it to check it out yet but the seller claims the engine shakes when running. Apparently it was damaged in shipping or something cause this engine is definitely all but new.
I took the side covers off in the hotel just to check it out. I doubt they would appreciate me trying to start it in my room.
Other than the stator cover being crushed in I can't find anything else obviously wrong with it from visual inspection.
My question doesn't actually pertain to the vibration, I figure when I get it started I'll have a better chance of figuring that out.
My question pertains to the clutch. I was looking at the clutch setup and was kinda wondering. Is this a cheesy "manual clutch" that actually just disengages an automatic clutch? I would like to switch the clutch back to an automatic. If its as simple as swapping the outer covers that would make my life so nice.
Also, I haven't searched yet so don't throw any rotten fruit at me but do any of the lifan 70 gurus have any pictures or links to make fabing up a simple wiring harness any easier?

Without see int it , most of the manual clutch models are just that , Manual clutch and 4 gears. (China does throw some wierd stuff out there , but I have never seen a disengaging automatic). The shift pattern does vary some all up some all down some (international shift) which is 1 down 3 up and there are some older one that have a rotating shifter as in it does not stop at 4th gear if you go one more you go back to 1st. OUCH! What size did you get?
On my 125 the countershaft sprocket was bent when it showed up. Try Dr ATV on wiring harnness diagrams.

Louis,
let me get home this evening and post some diagrams. Electric start???? non the less, I believe I have what you need. DRATV has diagrams loaded. without electric start. look at the harness sub W5. If it has electric start you will need the sub W5 and sub W4 harnesses although the sub W4 harness plug which goes to the regulator is not populated for the two wires coming from the motor. How many pins does the CDI have? 4 or 5? This makes a difference.

The CDI has five pins and I've been looking at the diagrams. I'm gonna go to the auto parts store and buy some connectors. Gonna try to get a wiring harness fabed up tonight and I'm gonna take the engine to deepas tomorrow so we can mess with it.
Any suggestions onthe auto clutch? How similar are the stock engines to these lifans? Could I swap the clutch assembly and cover? i've never been inside a stock 70 engine before.
Next part will be converting it to pull start but I've found some threads on that endeavor.

Sorry I can't tell you about the auto-clutch. kasey might know. Here's the diagram that should work for no electric start 5 wire CDI. You may have trouble finding the connector for the CDI. Check Radio Shack. The DRATV sub W5 harness should be the one you need if you go that route. DRATV has very speedy shipping. Absolutely no complaints from me.

One thing I came to realize about these Lifan motors is that they were modeled after the CT series bikes. There were differences in that the CT's had kick starters. ATC70 didn't. The CT series motors were used on other models some having an auto-clutch and some had a manual clutch. The CT's had a full electrical system. I know this stuff is probably obvious to you but with that in mind, I doubt the side covers or the clutches are interchangeable with a stock ATC70 motor. I may be wrong though.

there are several styles of manual clutches too,,,, so i would say it probably won't interchange,,, although you might have a chance.. since you have a crank mounted clutch as opposed to a main shaft mounted one,,,, i have one of each too,,,, I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT ONE SLIPPED BY ME,,, you would have paid way more if i had seen it,,,,,,,,,:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

31`.00, what a deal even if it is broken. You can get the handlebar switches on Egay. See the link.
