Assuming your rear barkes work; if the front get too high tap the rear brake to bring it down. Another option; I like to ride wheelies with a knee on the seat and my foot on the grab bar. The other foot stays on the peg. I find it is much easier to balance in this stance. My 350X will pull wheelies all day in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear. Does take practice to goose the trottle enough to get up but not go over. Good luck, Skeeter

I can ride sideways on 2 wheels all day, but I still haven't gotten the hang of wheelies yet either. I think it's a matter of getting your internal balance meter used to leaning that far back.
I've taped myself doing wheelies and when I do one that I feel like is huge I watch the tape and the front wheel is only a foot or so off the ground.

I used to have a 110 and I could ride wheelies for miles. The only way to learn is to fall off the back. Once you have done that a few dozen times you will start getting the hang of it.

before i could't do a wheelie for very long, but i expiremented and did one in second gear and i found it was much easier...in 2nd you have to pull back harder but the wheelie is much easier to sustain (don't have to use rear brake as much) the fear of falling backwards is much smaller; all you have to do is lay on the gas:demon:

practice using ur left knee on the back of the seat, and right on the rear brake. and find ur balance, then use it to transfer to sitting wheelie.:yup:
What are wheelies? people who ride wheeler.
My SX will wheelie in four out of five gears.

Come on you wusses, now I know that Cat can ride wheelies with the best of them, but Im a badass at them myself. I put both knee's on the seat and put it in 2nd and pull back a little and give it a little gas, then I hold the gas at a certain position and ride it all the way till you have to turn around. I like riding wheelies down the river, seems more fun that way:headbang:

Wheelies rule. I cant get enough of them. And like 3wheelernut said. Practice practise practise. Find a nice soft field some were and spend the whole day riding wheelies. You have to get a feel for it. And i find the more straight up and down you are the easier it is to ride one for a distance. Most people have a natural fear of going over backward`s. But once you find the right spot you can ride them for ever. I have been trying for about a year to master shifting while doing a wheelie. Pulling it up in secound and tryng to get into third without losesing the wheelie. It is very hard and like i said i have been working on it for about 1 year now. So dont be discoruaged if you cant get it right away just keep on trying. And yes i have landed on my back a few times trying to perfect them. But it really dosnt hurt. And once you get over your fear of flipping mastering them is no problem.

well, all i can say is that i love riding wheelies on my 400ex, can ride one for over a mile if the road is flat, and tires are same pressure. the solution i found to shifting while riding a wheelie is to find that balancing point of you and your trike, there will be a spot that you wont even need throttle to keep it up, that is where to shift at, with proper body positioning(leaning back a little) the machine will stay at that spot long enough to shift, then just get back on the gas until you want to shift again. i dont think there is any feeling like riding a wheelie in 5th gear wide open.

Our 83' 200x does easy 3ed gear wheelies:headbang:. I've been on my back more than a couple of dozen times.
Hey turbo, are you saying your 400ex does 5th gear wheelies ?

lol, it will pick the front end up in first threw third, but going down the highway, with proper body position and throttle control, you can keep the front end up all the way threw the gears, and yes the includes 5th gear, and when im in 5th im going about 60 mph, so theres no room for error, i have been practicing this since i got it a year ago, and could do the same with my tecate, so as the saying goes, practice makes perfect.

what I can't figure out is how these guys in magazines get a foot or two off the air on perfectly flat ground. do they use big ramps just out of the camera's field of vision? It's weird looking and it FREAKS ME OUT MAN.      :ugh: :ugh: :ugh: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

I've ridden 5th gear pinned wheelies on a highway on my dirtbike(CR250) but haven't really tried them on my 85 250R....I think I shall.

my 84 200x wants to do wheelies all the time if i get on it (about 3/4 throttle) or when i am in first or second and tap the gas, of course mine has a 10.25 to 1 wiseco high performance piston, but that shouldnt make alot of difference should it?

Deflating the rear tires some makes it eaiser to learn the balance point. Practice trying to keep it at just before the balance point and you will soon master the wheelie. Start with pulling it up in 2nd and try to work the throtle to balance with. Avoid using the rear brake as much as you can. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes easy. It took me alot of practice but I was determined to learn. Now I can ride through all the gears, up shift, down shift and at any speed I want. Learning to ride wheelies on street bikes was alot tougher, you can't let it go back over on you. I busted tach's, speedo's and fork seals doing panic braking. I got a trafic ticket one time too.

Fuzzy: Is that our governer on that atc 70? j/k kasey, but you sort of look like him.
I could do heel clickers on my TRX 250r, but only dare do no footers on a 3 wheeler. The jump I was hitting on the TRX was bigger than anything I've hit on a trike.
When i first started to learn to drive my 85 250r i was on pavementin front of my house, my parents dont really approve of them cus they think there dangerous:shrug: anyways i was idling in 1st gear and slammed on it ans before i knew it i was sittin on my @$$ with my parents watchin:D not a good move.

im still tryin to ride those weelies,i do it ok when i come up from a hill. usely my routine goes like this when im coming up a hill, if i dont jump it, go up in 2 or 3 gear and do a power slide at the top,i got my lil bro doing the same thing on his 125 trike. or somtimes i l;ike to sit at the bottom of a hill compleatly, then steat up in first or second just to check out the tork its got.

I rode the 350x last weekend and I'm finally getting the hang of wheelies. Of course, a big help was that six pack rack which also makes a great wheelie bar if you over-rotate. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Yeah Dan I know what you mean, when I had to make a new rack for my DX I made it just a tad bit longer and it helps me so I dont roll over backwards anymore. A real lifesaver!:D

My 350X does 6th gear wheelies, but you have to bring it up in about 3rd and then shift to 6th eventually. I used to feel that I was going to flip over backwards, but I found my balancing point eventually, and there is no feeling better than a wheely while pegged out in 6th on an X.
