I had my 70 running with the old points but it was barely running, it would start hard, had a weak spark, would bog out, ect. I had put in a new piston and rings, re-seated the valves but forgot about the points. So I bought new points and condenser and I can’t get the darn thing to run. I have a light hooked up and got it to dim at the F mark like the instructions say, but the only fire I got was a big backfire out of the exhaust. I checked the valve timing and it was off 2-3 teeth so I fixed that (so much for the auto adjusting cam chain tensioner), compression is at 130psi so hopefully I didn’t bend a valve. I then readjusted the points, still nothing except for a fire out of the carb (I put it out before the air filter lit up).

Any suggestions? I don’t know where to go from here.

I am defiantly getting a liftin for the other 70, these points are a pain!

double check that you do not have the timing off 180 degress. Make sure the piston is at TDC and both cam lobes are down and the adjusters are not to tight. Just a thought.

Cam that happen? I made sure the valves were adjusted at the right Top Dead Center, I do't think I can set the points off 180 degrees, it sparks every cycle.

OK lets make a new rule, when somethig wont start replace the spark plug. Even if the plug ahs 5 minutes run time on it and looks great, replace it.

Now for some carb. tuning.

I buy trike spark plugs by the case.
