1985 250R,,
Why the knife? Well she leaks ... The bottom leaks, the forks leak, the brakes leak, the flippen carb leaks, You know I am beginning to wonder what on this trike does not leak... so I am thinkin she needs some cleanup...
Suspension
I hate the suspension,, IT sucks, no worse,, IT ROYALLY SUCKS... Ok Ok it wasnt bad until well I wont even admit what I been doing ,,,, So yes we will be exploring the suspension. Just dont ask me exactly What I am going to do yet cause well I havent given it much thought other then it SUCKS..
Engine:
AND while I am in there you know what happens next...
Threw a pict up of my cylinder... Not much to brag about really,,,
Bottom end is getting the trx tranny,
Crank is the 4 mil stroker...
Piston I cant for the life remember what bore its on.. (frankly dont care)
No high compression ( I like starting my trike thank you very much)
I am hoping to keep my figures way DOWN,, yeah you big time trike builders,, My engine will cost aprox $500 and a manicure..:P
Piston and gaskets and bearings and those funky little odds an ends that always make that dollar figure go up..
Paint:
OH the pain of this PRICE TAG! I think this is gonnna kick my fanny in the dollar bill area... (Anyone Who works in this industry want a new bestest best friend? :iluvu:  )
I am thinking for engine, BBQ High Temp with a clear coat motor High temp For paint ( What Can I say I am Cheap  )
The Bling - ALL of it gets JET high GLOSS BLACK Probably PC, but not sure yet (remember I am cheap) and I am trying very hard to figure out where to put an hour GLass,,
So on the wheels I am wanting the black ones as well...
SO some before stuff... and partial takedown of the trike... (UGLY AINT SHE) So now I am officially trikeless and Rideless, so I supposse I must get busy eh?:slap:
Oh and feel free to say ok Jen that idea is NUTS try this one...
I figure I will do a piece by piece area with what I have done.. If anyone needs anything while I am there lemme know K..
SEXY hubby posin..
Like My cylinder?
EWW dirty engine
Fastest Trike in the world SEE so fast it spat its engine..

Jenn....
Seen a couple chromely +2" swingers on ebay lately for the waterpumper R's... seems like I recall you wanting one for this... looks like someone fabbing new, so if you wanted longer or added details, it could be donw up the way you want it...
Bruce
PS - I can send you a link if you need it..
jenndnn3
03-31-2008, 04:35 PM
Yeah watching those,,
Thank you tho,,,
I have two plus 4 swingers right now... I am thinking Chromoly would be lighter which would help the suspension issues I seem to have, not to mention the bling factor, just gotta justify the monies..

Are there any other colors going in, or EVERYTHING black? Maybe some red highlights?
Do you think this will be done by the end of the week?:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
jenndnn3
04-01-2008, 04:09 AM
Why what is happening at the end of the week? I seriously doubt that it will be finished...
yeah all black, no highlights..:)

if ya recover the seat, you could put the hour glass on that? just a thought. all blach hu? sounds like a winner!!
200x_Basket
04-01-2008, 07:30 AM
whats with the hour glass?
if you want decent looking rattle can paint use dupli color. it cost a little more but looks better.
use cr500 bearings for the crank (same size, more balls). they are all the same so pick 1990 bearings. use only OEM HONDA bearings, crank seals, and center gasket. the rest of the gaskets can be easily replaced but the center gasket sucks if it leaks.
a cr250 gasket will bump the compression a little and you will not notice it kicking the beast over.
got any 86 250r +4" swingers?
jenndnn3
04-01-2008, 11:59 AM
Well I could go on forever on the hour glass and its symbolic meanings or I could say its with the black widow female spider blah blah (boy does it get deep)... but It is just something I really like and yes I love its symbolism, and it fits with the spider, which I also happen to like...:)
I hoping to put it on the belly somewhere Ted, Discreet just not sure where..
Chris already on the bearing thingy,,, and yeah got me oem gaskets and seals and yeah because the center gasket leaks is why its getting the split..
But tell me something does this really work? So I m gonna bake my cases, freeze my crank get it all ready to put back together and suppossably the halves will go back together nice and smooth? No hammering no poundin, just slippen and slidin? (I use this method to remove bearings, never tried the other way) I think I will try it...
yes I do have a spare +4 it is spoken for,, Now I could be talked out of the one off my trike only if I knew for sure I had a secondary chromely on its way... But for now your a day late dear sorry......
200x_Basket
04-01-2008, 12:41 PM
the bearing thing works for me. I also have a press for removal and install if needed. I usually press the frozen bearings into the case and use the heat/ freeze method for everything else.

how about puting it either on the rear plastic on the under side behind the wheels on both sided, or under the front but then it dont show at all.

Well We took the parts to Koggs for powder coating and found this coin in the back of Brians Trunk where the R layed for its powder bath,,,,,
NOW HOW COOL IS THAT!?!:headbang:
It really made Brians day to find it...
We are not exactly sure sure where it came out of the R frame but WE are positive it came out somewhere,,, After research this is a chinese coin used during I/we believe the Ching Dynasty, we are unsure if its a replica or real (probably replica) but from what we have researched so far looks like this a was prosperous time so the coins and charms are often used for luck? Anyway SPECULATION of course,,,
I found out of course the rear shock leaked as well, so it went in for rebuild itself... NOW this is been a battle it seems and I am not holding my breath on the shock rebuild as of now, but the first round required 2 hours on the phone finding a rebuilder along with the possibility of rebuilding it... that was aprox 2 weeks ago..
yesterday I got bad news and had to research again as far as no rebuild on the rear shock and now it seems after part finding (matching) I am back on the road of possible rebuild.. I AM TRYING TO AVOID Buying a stinkin brandnew shock...($400 on up) and staying at my goal of $160..plus I had the spring powder coated too.. Fingers crossed there... it just messes with my well thought out plans...
Hopefully this weekend the Trike starts coming back together..

Very nice!!
Hey Jenn,
KTM here in Eugene rebuilds them.
jenndnn3
04-30-2008, 11:15 AM
DO they build em in their shop or send em off,,I dont know if I called them or not. There were Multiple called that day.
Anyway I used CCycle, but he thought he couldnt get parts,, He was told after several phone calls himself no go on parts,, ( Even Partsfish I think shows unavailable even in the TRX so yeah still worried)
Brian (Myhubby) went through yamaha in CGrove, they send em off. He got the phone # from yami and talked to a guy in Seattle who verified the matching parts (trx)... In turn I called CCycle and let him know yeah we got matching parts go forward...
I need to find the envelope I wrote all the #'s down on... went through MULTIPLE people some having stopped doing certian Jobs.. The next on my list machine CASES...(I was calling on that as well that day) I have DADDIO in mind for that job... (He sounded so cool on the Telephone), But he told me FLAT out I had to wait in line for Harley customers.. Season is here and they come first. He is the shop there in Glenwood just down from Ramsey-wade(sp?) I tend to favor those old school shops more for some reason,,

Cool coin Jenn...... I think you should find a place to put it back on the Trike.. Or be sure to have it in your pocket each time you ride... Funny how those good luck charms work. ... Good luck on finding parts... I just went threw all Kinds of stock checking and reserching to get my 82'R back together.

You got any polishing plans, or all blacked out? Stainless bolts, or you going to go with black hardware?
Should look GOOD either way!:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
Wow what a sexy spread!!!!!!
jenndnn3
05-10-2008, 10:03 AM
The stainless I think,, I really am struggling with that..
I figure triple and forks polished,, But with Black touches,, I was shooting for ALL BLACK then I saw something similar to these
http://i9.ebayimg.com/08/i/000/de/29/1584_1.JPG
thought they would mesh well with the forks front wheel combo...Then I could toss some polishing but still KEEP it very minumal, but as of now they are not purchased yet, The ones IF I recall correctly have little less silver in it,,
.
Sorry couldnt find the ATV pict online go to your store you'll see em..

looks like a project well worth the effort. maybe the coin being a good luck charm is like ju-ju or something?? any way, good luck. the title black widow caught my eye, as i'm doing the 82 185s listed here. it's theme is also widow, and it too is for my wife.
i'll keep up on this one as it happens. again, have fun, screw the budget, and be safe.
jenndnn3
05-10-2008, 11:30 AM

Yeah My budget went out the door when I found out I was past my last bore with the stroker.. (Guess I should have really cared what bore it was on after all)

The powder coater is Tufcoat in Tigard. I was just informed that my contact there is starting his own buisness. The price is 150 per trike, or at least it was this time around. I'll let u's know once he's set up in his new building.

Nor will I ever go fast enough to require em either..:chuckle:
I was going to do 2 trikes and I only ended up doing one of em.. Some parts got mixed in..you will see duplicates of a couple of things..I actually missed my better set of footpegs which upset me,, oh well..

Some progress of the Engine...(Im bored waiting the paint to dry as we speak layers)...
And I KNOW I KNOW my oven really needs cleaned as well..
So should I put the TRX 5th gear in or not? I have it...somewhere..
I posted a pict of the Cleaner I got at Napa. I really like it, very good stuff..
(really cleans the BBQ real good)
I was very thorough with the Tranny due to the dirty oil... No metal shavings at all ... Just black gooey(sp?) oil...

Mr. Richard
05-18-2008, 11:49 PM
it looks like you just painted over a bad paint job,,, whether you go with shiney or matte finish it should be smooth,,, i sandblasted my cases and didn't use any primer painted with acrylic enamel and its holding up great,,, anything thats not smooth will be a pain to keep clean too...
jenndnn3
05-19-2008, 12:00 AM
We used a high temp base coat 1200 degree, then high temp acrylic for the glosses..
No primer either..
Clear coat was too thick/hurried and crackled...:slap: :nono:
Still kinda liked it...:bash:
Koggs
05-19-2008, 12:10 AM
I've had weird results like that too. Seems like I remember the two paints not liking one another or something. Didn't hurry it, they just didn't like one another. Had to try a different brand. Then it was fine. ...but had to sand the mess off, which was a big pain in me arse. :fire:

Engine was not ready for PC... besides can't 2 tone it. That COSTS.. I still gots me this thar budget...
Engine should hold up fine.. even cheap..
Hopefully its not a :bitchfight: between the paints. That will really tick Brian off..:chuckle: Thx Chris now you got me worried...
Seriously though its still kinda COOL!

To be honest I had an aweful time with the pivot bearings,, I actually snapped a needle. The pivot set I purhased was absolutly garbage. Especially coupled with my impatience. They never had a chance,, they took a half a day..

Ha im not building no big boy or RACER that is for sure.. But she should do some good!
That is a way cool pict!
The engine is still at the Machine shop.. the bottom rod hits the skirt of the cylinder, so that has to be fixed. Since the piston now touches the head it has to be machined (think bored on the head) to match the piston! This is going to be the death of us... HAHA Talk about fixing the kitchen sink, LMAO:doh: :chuckle: But holly moly learning tons and tons of info...
Got brake lines freshened up and starting to put some PLASTIC back on the trike. I got a temp front wheel put on until I can put a new tire on the black front wheel. As to now I have shifted to runner for ride rather then take my time! Ill get some picts later tonight...If I remember..

HEY THX GUYS!!
SOOOO
SOME ENGINE UPDATING...
HERE are the picts of the engine... Please note the cheap paint!!
Because of the stroker,, I am extremely worried about compression.. too much and I am stuck on a trike that I cannot start too little and I have undone everything we ever did.. STINKIN 2 strokes and their picky tastes..:bash:
I torqued the base nuts down and found that the men in my life SMOKIN SOME GOOD STUFF cause I dont feel it hitting anything in the bottom...
The tolerences are SO FRIGGEN TIGHT!! I am a bit nervous... ANYWAY the Head gasket has now become the latest issue... The piston hits it..IT seems I will need a bigbore GASKET:slap:
I wonder if I put a double base gasket if that would save my bigboregasket?? HMMM
Anyway its kinda cool everything except the stroker is still Honda 250r (I could even push me luck and say stock ;) )... Not bad for a 300cc
Hey Guys did I mention, that if MY HUBBY LOVES THE POWER IM CREATING I GET A 450R??? psst DONT tell Dan..:duck: but the grey ones are pretty SWEET lookin!

Ok now we have gone through about 20 gallons of Gas. So we are broken in.. We broke in with 39MM carb and type 6 by PT pipe. I have the whatever the heck you call it High flow air filter (Actually its the K&N air filter with some K-nechts specialty pipe and hoses for cheaper purposes)
Now at first with dialing in the first thing that changed was the reeds. We went with V-force. I can tell you right now as I sit I felt no major difference going from my definatly worn out boysen's to the V-force. So there ya be.
The Trike performs very well. She has good pull I would say around 1/3 throttle on up. That was with the PT type6 and 39. Completely dead on 6th, falls FLAT! WE changed over to the 38mm Carb and FMF pipe. Now I have to admit the power is a little more thorough and consistent on bottom now. 6th gear is still dead. It is also a ton smoother all around ride with extremely predictible and powerful hits. But it does not jerk your arms off which is very good for me. And to let you know, I beat Brian except on hills (I just simply will not hit a hill hard) and he got me on a holeshot twice. But for most part in every gear except 6th I slowly walk away.
I still want to go to a 41mm carb and give that a whirl. But this is almost exactly what I was after.. I may reput the 39 back on with the fmf next weekend to just see..
We went riding yesterday, and I will admit, Brian's R threw me over the handlebars and broke my shiny pretty black HELMET:cry:

Brians R Got me real good..My head and right shoulder still hurt..
Lets just say power sliding with twist and sandskates do not work as well as say thumb and haulers. I was not used to the combo. AndI hit it like I would riding my own trike. Wouldnt ride it after that, I was humbled...

you broke your helmet or cracked it? Either way, glad it worked to save your noggin..
Tell me more about 6th gear? Its not pulling it? Are you rev'ing 5th gear out prior to shifting into 6th? Whats your sprocket sizes front/rear? I dont tax my combo into 6th for a few reasons, fuel and speed are the 2 major ones....

I took out the visor. Brian is gonna try replacing it for me.. Right now it looks like I have horns. But yes it did its job. I hit right where they took the hole out of my head so I am lucky that half that forhead is already numb.
From what I can tell full out drop into 6th goes flat, like no gas, or not enough. Same thing I had before when I went from the 36 to the 39 well before I built this engine. Sprockets, I will have to double check but I am pretty sure 13 and 40.
To be honest I dont run much in 6th and races are over before 5th so, I may just leave it. I just dont like that feeling ya know. I will test it more at Spinreel this weekend.

Pictures do not do justice,,,
Jim Just so you know, compliments came for the tailight! I have not hooked up the brakes as of yet because of time and I plan on taking trike to frame for a wax and manicure. Tailight lights look Great from what I hear. (I heard since I was riding it and did not think to take a picture of the trike.)

FlyingW

Im fairly sure that if lights are required, the tail light has to be red for running lights. Thats why I set it up that way.

I have a helmet here that I need to know where to send to....:D FlyingW asked me to do a black widow theme ;) :hail:
The helmet was flat black. I tried to do a full black widow spider after I put on the charcoal base coat. I was not happy with my lack of artistic ability  So I went this route instead :headbang: follows the theme of your seat :oldfogey: I believe right below the hour glass should be a vinyl decal that says "Black Widow". Other than that PM me where to ship.
